Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Termini.
Lauren, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always been an artist. I remember drawing my own coloring books as a child and turning any school project into as in-depth of an artistic endeavor that I could get away with. I discovered photography in high school and I was hooked. I took as many photography courses that I could, and spent countless hours in the darkroom, watching the magic of my photographs coming to life. In addition to my love of art, I have always been so interested in other people’s lives and the world around me. I often find myself dominating the dinner conversation with a new acquaintance by asking them questions about their life. This led me to Rochester Institute of Technology’s intensive photographic arts program, where my focus was on photojournalism – a perfect pairing of my two passions.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
It’s hard to find steady work as an artist out of college, so after a short freelancing job at a local newspaper in my hometown, I packed up and moved to Boston on a whim. I got work at a studio photographing people of all ages, and eventually just stumbled into the wedding industry. I was hooked! I love being invited into the lives of two people and hearing their unique story. It is my goal to not only turn their love into art, but also to capture a piece of their life’s story, to show their personality in my work – something for them to cherish forever. Knowing that these captured moments will tell their story for generations is what I thrive on most.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Network, network, network! It’s something I constantly push myself to do, even though it isn’t always a comfortable experience. Over time, it gets easier! Look online for groups in your community, like the website Meetup, which I recently joined. And of course, Facebook is always great way to connect. Many communities have created Facebook groups where they share everything from the good, the bad and the ugly… even a few job or collaboration opportunities. It’s a great way to feel like you’re not in it alone, community over competition!
