Check out Late Night Thoughts Music

Today we’d like to introduce you to Late Night Thoughts, the musical duo of Brian Rauch and Michael Harlow.

Brian and Michael, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
We met during our first year as undergraduate students at Brandeis University, initially through taking a class called Protest Through Song. The class taught us the impact of music in society and how it can be used to help others in need. We both had a passion for music from a young age, but the class really gave us the motivation to discover our own voices.

At the same time we became closer after joining the same a cappella group and shared our ambitions to write and perform our own music. We created our duo in the Spring of 2017 and after the positive reactions we received from performing our original music for on-campus events, we slowly made our way into the Boston music scene with the help of local musicians. We recorded our first EP in the Winter of 2018 at The Record Co, with the help of our producer Adam Sickler, and released it on streaming services the following Spring. We did not know what to expect, mostly because we did not know many people who were also releasing music, but we have been thrilled with the success of the EP thus far, reaching over a quarter-million streams in the six months since. We are currently gigging around the Boston area and writing songs for our first full album, set to be released in the Spring of 2019 and we cannot wait to show everyone what we have been working on.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Our songs come from real experiences and lessons we have learned throughout our lives. We believe the quality that makes art truly special is the authenticity of stories and feelings, so that is what we try to convey in our own work. While stories can be unique to each of us, we try to include universal elements in our lyrics that we hope people can relate to, understand, and empathize with. We believe music is a great way to show each other that we are not alone, that each struggle we have is shared and we can get past them together. That is an important theme for us as it relates to our creative process as well. We write all our music together and share stories with each other that we think are interesting as our process is completely collaborative. While we each have our strengths, we know we could not have gotten this far without one another.

What is it like to be an artist in your area? Does it ever get lonely? Do you have any advice for connecting with other artists?
Being an artist these days can be a bit lonely, but we have found the best way to meet other artists is by going out to open mics and other local shows. The local artists in the Boston area are so friendly and approachable! Collaborating with other artists also exposes you to a new audience and can give your perspective on how far you can reach.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
All our published music can be found on every streaming service available, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. People can also find out more about us and our music from our website, lntmusic.com and by following us on social media. People can support us by streaming our music, following us on social media, coming to our live shows, and sharing our work with friends.
