Today we’d like to introduce you to Theara Var.
Theara, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was always into photography but I never really pursued it until Junior year of high school when I was put into a photography class. From there it turned from a hobby into a passion. I had a friend who had a SLR and that was the first time I discovered different angles and different ways to manipulate your photos to make it the way you wanted it to. I’m inspired by editorial work, so I look at magazines like Vogue or CQ for inspiration and often look at work from Richard Avedon.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
When I capture a photo, I want my photos to have emotion. I try and find ways for my models to pose that people don’t often think of. When I edit a photo, I try my best to get the colors to pop so it doesn’t seem like another photo. Building character in your photos is important and it shows how much time and effort you put into capturing that shot. When people see my work, I want them to know that it’s “grimeysnow’s photo” and I want to help or continue to inspire those around me.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
I can’t speak for all artists because there’s so many different kinds but I can speak best for visual arts. For these artists, I feel the biggest challenge is being both an artist and a business person. The reality is some of us are doing this and we have to get paid. You’re not selling out or losing out on anything if you’re charging for your work. Just make sure you have a solid business plan if you want to make a passion into a career.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The only place right now that people can see my work is Instagram @grimeysnow and a website is launching soon. The best way to show support is just by showing love.
