Art & Life with Richard Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Chandler.

Richard, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Grew up in Canton, MA, and attended Boston University. I currently manage Boston Film Family, LLC where I produce horror movies and other media content. Some of our most recent productions include Parts Unknown, Witch Hunt, and Gilgamesh. I also partake in professional photography and have acted in a good deal of indie films that were shot all over the East Coast.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
All art is subjective. Mine, as a filmmaker, is often a nod to the grindhouse films of the 70s and 80s, while maintaining some relevance to current times. Classified as horror, I still consider them ‘art’, even though many filmmakers who produce horror are not seen as ‘artists’. Lower budget non-art house films are often misunderstood, and I’ve always been there to try and change that.

My films are a blend of what is relevant and what used to be entertaining before every movie was a Hollywood remake. As a photographer, most people probably know me as a ‘horror guy’, although I shoot portraits and other stuff too. I enjoy working with lighting on set, as opposed to hours of Photoshop.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My best advice is don’t worry about what other artists are doing. You will ALWAYS be compared to someone. Don’t get lost in your own head about it. Focus on you. But help others as well.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Parts Unknown is premiering at the Capitol Theatre June 9th. Gilgamesh can be found on most video-on-demand streaming services. As for my photography and other movie-related news, we are on social media @BostonUndead.
