Meet Lindsay MacLean-Russell of Lindsay MacLean Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay MacLean-Russell.

Lindsay, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Growing up, I always considered myself somewhat of a creative as I truly enjoyed the relaxation and solace I found in art. Although, I enjoyed photography as a hobby from as far back as I can remember (hello high school yearbook committee) my growing interest emerged throughout my graduate program as I studied Mental Health counseling with a specialization in Expressive Therapies.

When the weight of assignments or endless hours spent between field training and side jobs took its toll, in time I learned to turn to photography as an outlet. Against my better judgment and struggling student bank account, I spent close to every last dollar on a small DSLR professional camera and I am forever grateful that I did. Whether I was spending my days photographing as a personal hobby, for an academic project or professionally as expressive therapy modality with clients, I discovered in no time at all that I felt the most in my element with a camera in hand.

Those closest to me began to notice I seldom left the house without my camera and it didn’t take long for friends or family to call on me as the go-to photographer for life’s events no matter how small. In a desire to branch from landscape photography to portraits, I began offering free photo shoots for practice, while simultaneously admiring local photographers and reaching out to ask if I could shadow their sessions- Lucky for me, they were gracious enough to welcome me aboard.

After spending every spare moment behind the lens of a camera, I thought could I actually turn this passion into something more? In an effort to truly give it a go I took a leap of faith and booked a ticket to a two-day business intensive & styled shoot workshop filled with incredible photographers and talented vendors in the industry. After an amazing two days, I left feeling nothing short of inspired, and although intimidated by the prospect of owning a business, I knew wholeheartedly this was something I was meant to do. The road to where I am now hasn’t always been a clear or easy one, but I couldn’t be more thrilled that it led me here.

Can you give our readers some background on your photography?
Lindsay MacLean Photography specializes in portrait, maternity and wedding photography. With a background in human services and quite an outgoing personality, I pride myself in learning about my clients on a personal & down to earth level. I strive to provide a professional and thorough experience from initial inquiry, to chat over coffee, to long after their images are delivered.

I find that by truly making an effort to know my couples throughout the planning process and supporting their vision, that by the time the wedding day comes they will feel as if they have known me for years. I am so honored each and every time a couple invites me to delve into their unique love story, to be a part of their engagement journey and in trusting me to be by their side to capture their memories of the big day for a lifetime. From proposals to engagements, wedding days and baby bumps, nothing makes me happier than freezing time by capturing such precious moments.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success means different things to different people. In my eyes, success is identifying what it is that brings fulfillment to life and doing whatever it takes, no matter the risks, to make it happen. My business is fueled by enthusiasm, dedication, collaboration with my fellow photographers, personal growth, and a whole lot of heart. Above all, I find it’s essential to maintain a balance between the passion that leads to my success despite the challenges of running my own businesses

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I am located on the South Shore of Massachusetts, about 30 minutes south of Boston. I love exploring new places, and am always up for traveling throughout New England & beyond.
