Today we’d like to introduce you to James Wodarek.
James, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I studied fine arts in Florence, Italy at Fortman Studios. I then completed a bachelors degree in graphic design at La Roche College, after which I spent several years in the advertising industry as an art director and illustrator. I eventually made the transition into teaching. I am now an adjunct faculty member at La Roche College, exhibiting in art galleries both nationally and abroad. I exhibit regularly in New York City and hope to gain higher visibility in the Boston art scene.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art is inspired by everyday life and city living. It is for the beautiful people crammed in the night clubs and the DJ who frees them. It’s for the basement bars, the tattoo shops, the skateboarders and surfers doing their thing and the musicians driving all night to get to their next gig. It’s for you and me and the cool world we live in today.
Art is an amazing phenomenon that allows us to communicate with one another through a visual expression. I love it. I love art, I love discovering new artists and their work. I love creating art and I love being part of an organic, interactive, global art community.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Find your style and find the style that best represents you. It is very tempting to create work that you think will sell, but that could mean sacrificing your passion and selling out all that is dear to you. If you compromise your art, you have compromised yourself.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Hopefully in person in a gallery. I have quite a bit of art on Instagram @jameswodarek and more information is available at our website.
How can people support my work? Of course, all artists love it when people enjoy their art enough to purchase a print, an original, attend a gallery opening or a simple engagement on social media. Social media is wonderful, it is so easy to connect with people all across the planet. I am always excited to create custom work for a specific site or space as well.
