An Artistic Voyage: exploring local creative and artistic works

Raw, unfiltered creative expression – from stories and photographs to illustrations and paintings – is at the heart of the BostonVoyager.    In the coming weeks you’ll find in-depth conversations with many of the artists and creatives we’ve been introduced to lately, but below you’ll find a sneak peak of some of the art and artists that we’ve been most excited about recently.

Always so excited when a woman wants to celebrate her bump. I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter and I would wear fitted dresses and sweaters that hugged my bump, not only because I loved it, but because it was also comfortable for me. An older woman in my office told me she couldn’t believe I wore such things that actually showed I was pregnant. In her day, you did everything you could to conceal it because it was a clear indicator of having had sex. Even if you were married, that would be inappropriate and you ran the risk of being treated with little respect, which was hard enough when a woman WASN’T pregnant. Holy moly….thank goodness for the world evolving… #timeshavechanged .. . . . #bump #mama #celebratemotherhood #silhouette #bnw #blackandwhitephotography #babybump mamahood#mamahood

Nothing says “just married” like good old bubbles

Real Talk. Why are we so afraid to share our truth? I come across people all of the time who aren't living or speaking their truth. Does that mean you should walk up to someone and word vomit all of your hopes, fears, difficulties, etc on them at once? No. But it does mean opening up more. I used to be a person who didn't share a thing. I pretended things were great even if they weren't and even when I felt I was dying inside from depression as a younger adult. When things were good, I never let myself share the good as I was afraid I'd lose it or maybe they'd think I was bragging. As I grew older and started to really work on myself and my view on things and the way I dealt with this thing called life, I started to speak my truth. I started to share my journey, the good the bad and the ugly. And it helped me through some tough times. I did it publicly through blogging, I did it with my friends and family, I did it with strangers who were going through anything similar I had or was at the time. I started to relish the good things and shout them from the rooftops (figuratively of course, though, wouldn't that be fun?), I'd share the hard things (but without letting myself feel completely controlled by them or letting them get me down for too long). Sharing has helped me. It's lightened my soul and heart. It's literally felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders that I carried for almost 30 years. It opens me for others to come and share their own journeys (and this happens so much I feel blessed). It gets it out of me so I'm not just sitting with it, eating at my brain or my heart. So here's a truth. I LOVE the ocean. It makes me feel free and at peace and connected with the Earth all at once. It's where I go when I'm happy, sad, mad or just need to think. I am in awe of it and slightly afraid of it's vastness all at once. Another truth. I took this self portrait in Hawaii. I was super critical of it, as I am of myself. I saw so many flaws in ME (UGH, why do we do this to ourselves???). But I also LOVED it. I decided to let myself notice but push aside those criticisms and share it publicly. {finished in next comment👇🏽}
