Meet Wendy Walter of The Voice Of Clay in Brookline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Walter.

Wendy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I met clay as a freshman at High Mowing Waldorf School in Wilton NH with Mrs. Isobel Karl. I was lucky enough to spend many hours a week in the pottery studio. After working for a pottery in St. Thomas and a pottery in Colorado after college I had enough experience to break out on my own. A divorce and the need for an at home job to care for two kids sealed the deal. In 1999 I hawked my wedding ring bought a wheel and a kiln and went into business.

I produced a line of pottery that took off thanks to a NH sales Rep. and was teaching 4 classes a week to both children and adults. I noticed that people’s energy changed when they worked with clay and began to research the therapeutic qualities of clay on the body. After a training in clay baths I decided to get my license as an Esthetician in order to provide clay body treatments. Hired by a Wellness Spa in Groton MA to help get the spa up and running I had the opportunity to get certified in lymphatic drainage, reike, and have been a pelotherapist since.

In 2012 I decided to take healing a step further and enrolled in a somatic breath work certification as well as a Master’s degree program through the Edgar Cayce Foundation. I know have an MA in transpersonal psychology and certifications in breath work, hypnosis, and Integrated Imagery regression hypnosis.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle was single parenting alongside growing a business. My kids were two and four when I got divorced so there was a lot to juggle.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I make pottery and sell it but it is the teaching that sets me apart. I use the process of throwing as a mirror for the student. My work in the world is about empowering people through creativity and personal growth. I am proud that after all these years people still seem to enjoy my pots and that I am really good at “spinning a lot of plates in the air” at once. (ha.ha. get it?) It is a serious balancing act and one that requires a lot of trust in the universe or powers that BE.
