Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Levine.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Josh, my husband, and I run the account Tastes2toTango. We met playing tennis in undergrad just outside of Boston. After both moving back home for a couple years to figure out our next steps, we decided to move back to Boston to each begin our graduate school studies. I’m sure a ton of people say that they LOVE food. But we really LOVE food. So much that we liked documenting each thing we ate and where we ate it. It became a map for our favorite food spots. We decided to start @tastes2totango to share our love for food with the world and hope to spread the word about some of our favorite spots in Boston and beyond.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Instagram algorithm changes all the time. To keep up with it can be draining! However, if you have a passion for what you’re doing, your followers will know to keep checking your page. I also work full-time and go to school part-time. Finding time to go to restaurants can sometimes be hard, but I love to work with restaurants to promote their dishes because Instagram has proven that we really do eat with our eyes! It’s been a great way to try new restaurants and take a break from other obligations. My advice would be to find what makes you passionate to keep doing what you’re doing. If you thought your life would take you one way and you ended up on another path, explore that path!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tastes2toTango – what should we know?
Our Instagram page mostly showcases dessert (because everyone loves a good, sprinkled filled treat… well, at least our followers do!). I’m really proud to be able to spread the word about places that we love to go back to. Chefs work really hard to put their best food forward, so to be able to photograph their work is a pleasure. We really love going to restaurants, taking hundreds of photos, and interacting with the restaurant staff. We always chat with our wait staff and love meeting the chef. We are so appreciative of the experiences that we have had and we want them to know we are grateful!
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think the biggest barriers are that sexism is still very present. Women are so capable of greatness, but society has made us think we sometimes can’t persevere.
