Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitali Patel.
Mitali, a licensed cosmetologist, and owner of iLash based in MA is trained in many different areas of makeup, from a subtle, natural look all the way to a red-carpet glam look. Mitali works closely with all her clients to establish a finished look that they love. The main motive iLash Boston has for their clients is for them to feel comfortable in their own skin by not completely changing how they look but making sure they are still looking flawless and beautiful! Mitali started doing bridal makeup and hair since 2016 starting in VA by working for brands like Estee Lauder and Bare Minerals. Later, Mitali moved to MA in 2017 after she got married and started iLash Boston- Bridal Makeup and Hair Service. Mitali also has a special training in bridal makeup by DYF Tamanna Roshan (masterclass certification) and also privately trained by a very well know beauty educator, GlowbyHerneet in bridal hair and makeup. iLash Boston is also working it’s way to opening up a glam house in the near future that will have many different beauty services catered for the brides to be! We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I first moved to MA from VA, it was definitely a bumpy road. Unfortunately, my VA cosmetology license doesn’t just automatically transfer to MA. I had to retake my boards’ exam (written and practical) to get licensed in MA which was almost a 6-month process. In the meantime, I got my business cards ready and took private bridal classes from my favorite beauty educator, Herneet. Practice only makes you perfect, so I believed in taking any classes I can so I can keep my speed and quality up. Once I got my license, I started taking bridal clients for hair and makeup. I started with doing 3-4 weddings last year but only taking services from brides for hair and makeup for their big day.
This year, after I took the masterclass and got certified by DYF, I literally got hit by so many emails and love from clients wanting to hire me for their event. Unfortunately, since I am just one person, I would sometimes have to reject a few inquiries that require more than 4 people to get ready per event. Hence, my goal is to open up a glam house in the next year or so and build a great iLash Boston team to handle big parties! One advice I would give other beauty artist is not to give up. If you keep working hard, people will notice your work. When you post your work on Instagram, make sure to hashtag and tag all your favorite beauty educators so it also reaches out to them. They may not notice in the beginning, but when you keep doing it, they will see it eventually! Don’t give up!
We’d love to hear more about iLash Boston.
From the moment my clients walk in my door to the finishing touch of powder, I provide an experience that makes every individual feel special. My motivation is to make sure every client feels Confident and Beautiful in their own skin! I am not only making sure I do their makeup right but overall dressing the entire face. My goal is to make sure the makeup is perfect and also the hairstyle and any face jewelry that reflects their overall look! I specialize in bridal makeup and hair services. Since I have prior experience from Estee Lauder and Bare Minerals, I am able to cater beautifully to any skin tone starting from a natural look to a full glam depending on client’s preference! Most of the reviews I have received from my clients love the fact that I can create a natural look where they feel very comfortable with; the fact that I am always early for each event and ready to go, able to adjust to any changes or delays last minute; overall, they are happy with the quality of my work and the fact their makeup/hair lasts perfectly for the entire event.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Since the beauty industry is growing, I think competition is the biggest barrier. I believe in working with honesty and concentrating on your own work by promoting. It’s good to know your competitions around you and what type of work they are providing for your knowledge. I also try to make sure I have my own style of working that sets me apart from other people. Some people are into highlight and that’s their main focus about their company and someone else might be all about cut-crease, etc. My specialty is concentrating on eyes as the main focus of my client’s faces. If my client leaves the option to me of creating their eye look with my color preferences, I do my favorite classic halo look on them! Overall, I feel that you need to have a specialty you are very good at that sets you apart from the rest and make that your company strength!
