Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Blount.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Hannah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making jewelry at the age of six when I received a bead book for my birthday. It wasn’t until a few years later that it occurred to me that I could do this for a living, but I have spent every spare hour since then creating jewelry and loving it! It’s been a lifelong passion and a lot of work, but worth every second.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The business and financial components have definitely been my biggest challenges. I have gone through years of trial and error figuring out what works best, but even when trial and error is not successful, it is not a loss. When something doesn’t go as planned, don’t give up, but instead, use your experience to motivate you further.
As a female artist, I have encountered a handful people over the years who have doubted me-no one more than myself, and it can be difficult for any young artist not to suffer from imposter syndrome. My advice for young women starting their self-made journey is that when people doubt you, allow their doubt to lift you up and inspire you to prove them wrong. The good thing about people doubting you is being able to completely exceed their expectations of you!
My last piece of advice is to be kind and generous to your community, both the community you work in and the community you build around your business. A rising tide lifts all boats and I am a firm believer that we all have an obligation to give back, especially where we have found success. It will make you a stronger designer and a stronger businesswoman.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hannah Blount Jewelry – what should we know?
I’m a jeweler and I specialize in jewelry that tells a story. I’m the proudest of helping people communicate their story through jewelry and how powerful that form of expression is.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Instagram is my obsession and I use UNUM to help me organize my Instagram feed, but I actually get a lot of inspiration through Pinterest and it helps me organize my thoughts during the design process.
