Meet Trailblazer Amy Guthrie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Guthrie.

Amy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was first introduced to essential oils in 2014, while looking for an alternative for my daughter’s pain associated with new braces. A fellow parent at gymnastics offered me a small sample of clove essential oil. I thought “no way will this tiny little bottle do anything for her,” but when your child is in pain, you do what you can, and if it’s safe it’s always tempting to give it a shot. We followed her directions and while it didn’t work precisely as we had hoped for her pain that day, I saw something new that could work in many other situations.

I went to a class with her and ended up being the only person at the event. I spent hours sniffing oils and asking questions and left with a new passion — helping others see how essential oils can help them feel better: less pain, less anxiety, more sleep, more happiness.

Originally, I went to college to be a teacher. I was a middle school teacher for a few years before I had my children and became a full-time parent. In 2005, while I was expecting my youngest child, my middle child became sick and ended up receiving a heart transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital. As a family with a heart warrior, we began to become more aware of things we never considered: how over-the-counter cold medicine can affect one’s whole system, how cleaners can interact with our endocrine systems, how pain medicine you can buy or be prescribed doesn’t HELP your source of pain, but masks the true symptoms. These all became things we had to think about each time our child had things happen, and it naturally extended to our whole family. I had always looked for a “greener” way to live, a lighter carbon footprint, a more health-conscious way to raise our kids. Essential oils were the answer to all of those things and more. Today, we use oils for so many things, it would be difficult to list them all.

After working with essential oils for about 3 years, I decided there was more I could do in regard to helping people achieve a pain-free life. I began researching energy work and found IET. Integrated Energy Therapy supports you in safely and gently releasing limiting energy patterns of your past, empowering and balancing your life in the present, and helps you to reach for the stars as you evolve into your future. I know how that sounds, trust me. I wouldn’t believe it for one second either if I hadn’t experienced it! It’s a perfect complement to the AromaTouch Technique I have learned through essential oils and I know that IET provides something for everyone, just like essential oils.

After almost 5 years of experience with essential oil education, I am confident I have a solution for everyone who is ready to increase their health, ease their pain and be the best they can be. Simple, practical alternatives are my specialty, and I work with people one on one to create solutions to your exact needs. I consider myself primarily an educator — I teach people how to use these methods for themselves, allowing them to hold their own power to support their bodies and maintain control over their health (and their family’s) all the time. I educate daily on the uses of essential oils and am also certified to teach all levels of IET to anyone who wishes to learn.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business has not always been a smooth road. I think it never is. I have been working to strengthen my mindset and build my self-esteem. Some early struggles were bringing my family on board! They were skeptical of the effectiveness of these “new” ways of feeling better (even though essential oils have been used for thousands of years) and were hesitant to leave our old ways behind. After all, using oils isn’t harder–it’s just a change.

My struggles most often deal with juggling being a parent and owning a business. I am committed to being there for my kids every single day, and teenagers are just as demanding of time as toddlers, perhaps even more so. My husband is very supportive but also works full time, so I often feel as if I have the demands of full-time parenting AND working full time. It can be the worst of both worlds, and the best of both worlds.

To other women, I say follow your heart. Search inside and realize that you are indeed capable of all you want and more. Nurture your mindset, take care of yourself every day. Women of all ages will benefit from this business, network marketing does not have a wage gap — you work hard and you are compensated accordingly. If I could go back in time, I would start this business earlier. Working for myself is the hardest, most rewarding thing I’ve done — second only to being a parent.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Heart’s Own Path – what should we know?
I provide solutions to those looking to live their best life. I sell essential oils. I also provide energy therapy sessions that will help people feel amazing. I am known for helping those with lingering pain issues that they feel will never be resolved. I have helped people who have wanted to avoid surgery and their issues have now resolved.

I am most proud of how I work with people individually for their exact needs. I am committed to serving people in the way they are looking for and know I provide not only an amazing product but support perfectly matched to their needs.

What sets me apart is that I am not a one-and-done sort of person. When you work with me, we create a relationship. I will help you resolve your “pain point” whether that is a pain, sleep, anxiety or something else, but it doesn’t end there. I will become your partner in continuing to help you dive into the healthy life you are looking to create. It’s first about education and as we continue to work together, it’s about our relationship to achieve the life YOU want. I also offer a unique perspective as a seasoned parent of young women. As a mother of young women, I am a perfect mentor to the young businesswoman. I am also a great mentor to an experienced parent, who might be looking at a change of season in their life (divorce, empty nest, relocation).
My energy work is the other factor that sets me apart from the other “essential oil” people. I work with a modality that is very powerful. Together, IET and essential oils have the ability to change a person’s life.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
In the industry of network marketing, I feel that there are very few barriers actually. It’s an industry where women can excel since you are rewarded directly for the amount of work you put into it. There isn’t a steep learning curve, so anyone can start regardless of experience and education, and you can learn on the job.
In other industries, I feel women are still held back because of traditional roles being enforced. When I was teaching, I was often told that being a young, newly married woman was a liability — as they “figured” I was going to have children and was seen as a temporary employee.

I am watching my teenage daughters be passed over for part-time jobs because they are “too pretty” or deemed as less intelligent because they are also petite females.

In my opinion, there are still societal norms that maintain an idea that somehow women are less capable to lead, and that men are unwilling to follow a woman’s leadership.
