Meet Toni Migliore of The Tone Club in Cape Cod

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Migliore.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Toni. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I guess I would say that fitness has always been a part of me. Dating back to my childhood, I was always active in sports (and dance) and loved to hang out with my three brothers and their friends. They were also athletes and that would spend a lot of time in the weight room. I would try to keep up with them and work out anytime I could. It was then that I realized this was something I truly had a passion for. I loved the way my body transformed, but more importantly the way it made me feel when I was done with a great workout.

Once I graduated high school, I moved to Tampa, Fl to continue my education. I joined several gyms including Bally’s Fitness, where I was a member of their dance fitness team. In my later years, I continued on with my fitness journey hiring personal trainers, competing in bodybuilding shows and staying active in the local gym. However, it wasn’t until moving to the Cape that I decided to take my passion for fitness to the next level and turn it into my “career.” I became licensed in Zumba and started teaching in several local clubs/recreation centers. I realized immediately that I loved the way it made me feel to help others on their fitness journey, I decided to continue my education in the fitness industry and became certified in many other fitness formats, including Group Fitness Instructor with the Athletic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).

From there, I worked my way up at a local club and took on many different roles including Group Fitness Director, where I oversaw the Group Fitness Program in over 20 clubs nationwide. Always striving for excellence and continue to challenge myself, I felt it was a great time to open a fitness studio that I could call my own. After many discussions with my husband and business partner, Mike, we decided to take the leap of faith and open our own studio. I wanted to take that feeling that I always fostered in my classes, which was a non-threatening and inclusive environment, and share it in a space that I designed and could call my own. The Tone Club opened its doors on June 2, 2018, and I can honestly say that the community support has far surpassed my wildest dreams. We continue to grow and evolve every day and I couldn’t be happier.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, we all face some challenges as we are getting started in any business. I really believe it’s how you handle that challenge that defines you as a person, and business owner. I try to take any obstacle that comes my way and turn it into a learning experience. For me, I think the biggest challenge in opening my business was time management. Although my three children are young adults now, two are in college and one is a senior in high school, it has been a transition learning how to manage my time at the studio and home. However, everyone in my family has really stepped up when I needed them. Over the summer, while my kids were home, they each worked a couple of days at the studio to help out. My husband can be seen on the weekends working at the front desk as well. I love the fact that my members have gotten to know my family and vice versa. After many years of talking about them, they can finally put the face to the name. I also love that my entire family has learned about the business from the beginning stages of our demo and remodel to the end result of beautiful space and thriving business.

Please tell us about The Tone Club.
The Tone Club is a fitness studio that offers Group Exercise classes ranging from Bootcamps, Yoga, Buti Yoga, Barre, Dance Fitness and more. We also offer small group training classes and Personal Training, for those looking to take their fitness to the next level.

The Tone Club offers a few unique options for this area. First, I believe that the atmosphere and ambiance is everything. Not just aesthetically but the feeling you get when you first enter a business sets you up for what’s to come. I wanted that feeling to be warm and welcoming. From the minute you walk in, you are greeted with a smile and an inviting front desk lobby area. We offer complimentary coffee, towels, and mats if needed. We also have a comfortable sitting area to hang out and watch a class or chat with your friends.

Next, we have a disco ball along with LED lights that actually dance to the beat of the music. This sets the tone for many of our classes and creates that “nightclub vibe” while you’re working out. It’s as if you are in a city right here on the Cape. One thing, I’ve been told, that also sets myself apart from others is that I try to encourage my members to have fun during their workouts. Working out doesn’t have to be boring, I try to make it as fun as possible so that they forget they are even working out. Allowing them to let loose and leave their inhibitions outside, with a judgment-free atmosphere is what really sets The Tone Club apart. It’s simple… we just have fun, and that is something I really pride myself on! If I can encourage my members to leave smiling and wanting more, and they don’t feel like it was a “boring” workout, I know that they will continue to come back again and again. But I think most importantly is all of my staff and members who show up every day giving 110%. I am constantly told that my studio is so “inviting” and “welcoming” and I attribute that to my entire team of instructors as well as my members. That’s super important to me, as I know first hand that sometimes coming into a new studio can be incredibly intimidating. I am always reiterating to my staff about making sure they greet each member by name and introduce themselves to everyone in each class. This trickles down to my members as well.

By the end of class, it’s like they have all known each other for years, and I love that. My motto has always been, “Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe”, and I really believe this wholly. If you exude positivity and live your life building each other up, you, in turn, will receive it back in abundance. It’s always been about really creating a sense of belonging and community, with that being said, I try to do studio events and activities as much as I can. We just finished our first 5K road race at Craigville Beach in support of Ovarian Cancer, where I had 35 member’s on The Tone Club team. They did amazing and we raised over $700 towards the organization. Our next big event is coming up in November, where we will be running the Spartan Race at Fenway Park. I am so honored that the incredible organization called Special Ops Survivors, that supports the widows of our fallen Navy Seals/Special Ops soldiers have asked The Tone Club to team up with them and run the race together. We will be teaming up alongside them and running this race together. In just my four short months of being in business, I am completely humbled by the communities support and I feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of these important causes. I am looking forward to what’s to come, as I continuously try to push my team to their greatest potential.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have so many favorites, most of which include my mom cooking in the kitchen. She passed away 20 years ago, and now that I am a mom, I look back in awe at how she managed to raise the four of us, alongside my dad, always cooking a four-course meal while working a full-time job. The house was always clean and we always had a full stock of groceries at hand. I still look back with such fond memories of the Sunday morning sauce (we are Italian) cooking on the stove from 6 am until we sat down for dinner that evening, and vividly remember waking up to that aroma in the air every weekend.

I know you asked for my favorite, but this is right up there as well, although this memory is when I was a “young adult” but technically 17 is still a child, right? While going to school in Tampa, Fl, I tried out for a dance role for the Pregame Show in Super Bowl 25 and got the part. I danced my heart out (which happened to be against 2 NY teams, Giant vs. Bills), and being from NY it was a dream come true. Whitney Houston performed the National Anthem, and I was standing right next to her on the field in front of thousands! We were in the dredges of the Gulf war, and it still brings chills down my spine remembering the feeling I had watching the F16’s fly over the stadium. There wasn’t a dry eye out there, including my own. One of my favorite memories for sure, and definitely one I will never forget.
