Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvainson Gelin.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m a Boston based photographer who has been in love with photography for as long as I can remember. I first fell in love with photography in my teenage years in Cambridge taking part in the local Community Arts Center summer program.
That’s where I first discovered the infamous dark room and my love for photography started and blossomed from there. After dealing with many different hardships like health, family, and relationships which took me off my path as a photographer. I have finally found the strength to pursue my true love and passion.
Please tell us about your art.
My art is photography! In all forms whether it’s in the studio, landscape, portraits, street art, nature, pets, or events, my artwork can be pretty diverse and can range from all sorts of styles. You can say that I have an editorial style with a bit of fashion mixed in it. My goal is to candidly capture people in their natural state and to make them feel beautiful and better about themselves. I believe that the best pictures are the ones that are usually come from an impromptu moment.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Yes, I think the role as an artist in any form has become more valuable because we live in an age now were people can be sensitive to the thoughts of others. And as an artist, it is your duty to challenge the social norms and to get people thinking differently or at least to spark your mind to think for itself. Local events are a great experience because it gives you exposure to various sectors of the market that you wouldn’t normally be exposed to and is a great opportunity to meet other great artists.
