Meet Steven Pawlyk of Innovative Performance Productions in Greater Boston Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Pawlyk.

Steven, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After cheerleading in college for 8 years and coaching for many years after that, I wanted to make a career out of all that I had learned about the industry. Having a background in music production I decided to try my hand at producing performance music for local cheerleading teams. Cheerleading music production was a very lucrative niche field that didn’t have many professionals in it at the time. After having some local success, I began reaching out to teams all over the country. I began to gain a great reputation for having a high-quality product at an affordable price. In addition, our customer service was second-to-none. As my brand/product began to gain traction nationally, I then moved international. We now service clients all around the world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has had its ups and downs. When I first started, there only a couple other producers creating performance music. As time passed more and more producers started popping up all over the country. This led me to have to more and more creative in what we were offering. We started incorporating multiple vocalists, original content, both custom and premade products etc. Having a big online and social media presence has started to separate us from the rest of our competitors. The biggest my company has faced, along with the rest of the industry, is that as of 2016 we can only use original content in our production. We are no longer able to incorporate popular music intro our mixes. This is another aspect that separated us from our competitors. This rule change eliminated a lot of the competition. This has allowed us to absorb former companies and expand our brand. Other challenges have been having a family because it only gives me a certain amount of time to produce each day. I used to be able to work 15-hour days, 7 days a week. Now I am limited to a 9-5 Monday through Friday work schedule. Having a great staff has allowed us to continue to grow despite all the industry and life changes over the years.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was full of energy always trying to learn and do as much as I could. I was a straight A student and played every sport imaginable. In addition, I had a heavy music influence as my dad was in a band singing and playing guitar. My dad is where I got my music talents from which has allowed me to get to where I am today. The discipline that I learned from school and sports combined with my musical talents has allowed me to grow my business from a single-person operating from his bed room to have multiple employees operating all over the world.
