Meet Stacy and Jack Connolly of Hidden Jewel of the South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy and Jack Connolly.

Years ago, Stacy could often be found enjoying crocheting bags and scarves as a stress relief- from her day to day job in the mental health field. Stacy was passionate about her full time career, but knew there was more to her calling, and wanted to spend more time with her daughter. Then, about ten years ago, on Valentine’s Day, at a jewelry-making class, Jack and Stacy discovered their mutual interests and began crocheting necklaces, bracelets, cuffs, and more, together. A bit later, Jack attended a wire bangle class, where his passion for working with metal began. He started designing all sorts of jewelry using wire, silver, gold, stones, etc. Jack can be found attending to his new passion during his spare time from his full-time career. Their two girls, Ivy Rose and Ally, shortly followed in their love for fashion. After 10 years, Stacy decided to jump both feet in, giving up her job and opening a little boutique in the south end!

These days, Hidden Jewel of the South End is the setting for the family’s ever-expanding, exciting, creative collaborations…and for yours. Stacy and Jack love to share their jewelry-making passion with their community! Enter through the front door, and immediately you will discover the ever-changing, eye-catching, one-of-a-kind pieces they hand-craft, right there in the studio! Often during the week you will find them inspiring everyone to discover their own inner designer, with classes’ right in store!

At Hidden Jewel of the South End, you can explore an array of contemporary jewelry—from sterling silver hand forged bracelets and rings, to cufflinks created from the inside of a fine watch, You can find a shimmering assortment of gemstones that they can custom design into a one of a kind work of art, or even teach you how to express your inner artist! They also can repair jewelry, in house, or up-cycle your existing jewelry into something more modern! They also offer their services for hire, traveling to events such as weddings, Bat Mitzvahs, and birthdays offering traveling jewelry making classes, and beading.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since opening day on Mother’s day 2014, our family has been working to connect with the community and bring art to the forefront in the south end. It hasn’t been without its challenges, but the community has always supported us. The location of the store is a bit off the beaten path, (hence the name) and it is difficult to draw people in, however we really love the spot we are in. It has also been a bit of a challenge to educate the community on everything we have to offer. For instance many customers think we are only a jewelry store, they don’t realize Hidden Jewel takes custom orders, offers classes, bead supplies, and traveling events etc.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hidden Jewel of the South End – what should we know?
Hidden Jewel of the South End specializes in custom jewelry design and repair, as well as beading classes, and education. We also travel to events to teach and have beading nights. Everything in our  shop is hand made by our family, and made right there in our studio, all stones and metal are sourced responsibly. Most other jewelry stores resell jewelry made from others, and do not offer custom design, up-cycling and repairs of any jewelry even that which was not purchased at their store. As a small family run community boutique, Hidden Jewel strives to have competitive pricing, usually much more reasonable than the big chain stores.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Most importantly is the ability to connect with our community and offer reasonable pricing and innovative design. Hidden Jewel offers open beading, kids’ classes, Parents’ night out, and adult/family time.

Hidden jewel is one of my favorite places to shop for my girlfriend! Jewelry is amazing and handcrafted. And she’s had the same bracelet last for over a year with barely any wear or tear! Keep it up!!
