Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosemary Ramos.
Rosemary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been in the skincare industry for 22 years. I had a keen interest in skincare for myself and always admired my grandmother’s natural beauty and was intrigued. I honestly chose to go to school for skincare more out of practicality as I was going to be a single mother and needed to chose a career that would allow me to work part-time or have flexible hours. The combination of the two has led to an amazing career working in the skincare room, teaching, developing people, mentoring and now owning my second business.
Joy was born out of being so unhappy in a corporate job and something had to give. I had a morning where I was talking and saying…” I just need to find my joy again” and the name was born. I knew this time around, I would have a simpler business model and I only wanted to manage myself and take care of my guests and take my time to be mindful, intuitive and spend quality time with my guests. The other requirement was, I wanted to walk to work as I am a resident.
joy skin atelier (workshop/studio), is a hidden gem that lives within an amazing yoga studio (Asana Charlestown). This studio has introduced this wonderful community of Charlestown to me and I can actually say this is home for me and home for “joy”.
We (Meredith, who is now part of my joy family and an amazing, talented skin therapist) have the opportunity to mindfully treat people and their skincare needs with a holistic approach.
“Joy is where wellness treatments are built around maintaining mindful and emotional health combining holistic and technical methods resulting in whole, healthy skin and body.” -Rosie
Has it been a smooth road?
I have a friend who jokes that I have earned an MBA during my career with my experience and the challenges of owning a business and now my second one.
The biggest struggle over the years and I will summarize this in a simple way. I always felt the need to have to go big to be successful. This is what I know now…the ego is big, the joy is success!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the joy skin atelier story. Tell us more about the business.
JOY, is an indie neighborhood skin atelier & retail boutique that offers individualized non-toxic skincare, full body waxing, and meditation; combined with lifestyle items that are sustainable and unique.
We feature eco-friendly, sustainable products from small owned business’ around the globe offering our healthy, environmentally conscious consumers the best options in skin care and lifestyle living.
What I/we are most proud of is that…we get to come into a beautiful space, meet amazing women and men that trust us to take care of them. We do not feel the need to be perfect. The studio is a little space of luxury and comfort where our guests come to look and feel replenished.
It is hard to put into words what makes us special because its an energy that needs to be experienced to understand.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There is a big shift happening now in green beauty.
We are conscious about how we farm, what we eat, treat animals, treat people, process things and what we put on our skin.
Our sustainability and carbon imprint will and has affected this industry.
