Meet Rosely Shields of Salon R Hair Skin in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosely Shields.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rosely. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a hairdresser’s assistant at Le Pli Spa at the Charles Hotel in 1985. After a year, I graduated to the floor as a stylist, where I stayed for 7 years. During those 7 years working with colleagues and being mentored by the owner, I perfected my craft through education with La Biosthetique, Framesi, L’Oreal, and Matrix. Like all professionals in my industry, I dreamed of opening my own salon. That day came true. In September of 1992, I and a co-partner opened La Capelli Salon in Cambridge. After 20 years of success, we parted ways and I opened salon R in 2012. That’s where I am today.

Has it been a smooth road?
After being in the industry for 20 years, I have been fortunate enough to have established a long-lasting clientele. It’s never easy to leave something that comfortable and start over but through hard work and experience, it has been a smooth transition. In the past, it has been “pencil and paper.” While adapting to modern technology, I realized I was computer illiterate! Nonetheless, I have found a hairdresser-friendly software company that has launched me. From the time I opened, I knew that I needed to be surrounded by a team of inspiring and talented staff, which I have now.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the salon R hair skin story. Tell us more about the business.
Salon R is a haven for our clients. We do not judge people on their appearances. We simply try to help them look their best by using the most up-to-date techniques and products. Our services include color and hi-lights, cuts, blow-outs, keratin treatments, conditioning treatments, and more. We are known for blonding, precision cuts, and a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We run on time, keep a clean salon, maintain a professional look, and make clients feel like they’re in competent hands. I am most proud of the salon for being unique in its appearance and for catering to women of all ages.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
After listening to industry experts, the challenges are technology and instant gratification. Where do I see it going in the next 5 to 10 years? Less structure, more carefree, one-stop shopping, less time with the same results, fewer chemicals and more naturals. Time is a big factor, everyone is so busy.

Pricing:

  • Keratin Treatment $175
  • Permanent Color $57
  • Blow-Out $34
