Meet with one of the top personal trainers on the North Shore, Domenic Prisco of Fitness Within-Reading

Today we’d like to introduce you to Domenic Prisco.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We opened our studio in June 2014 with one goal in mind — to help every person who walked through our doors reach their health and fitness goals. We started by offering one-on-one personal training and eventually added both small-group training and boot camps for those who were looking to train in a group atmosphere.

Over the past four years, we have built an amazing team comprising some of the area’s best certified personal trainers. We work with a wide variety of clients — from athletes to people who are just starting their fitness journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any journey worth taking, there will always be obstacles and we have had our share. When we first opened Fitness Within, we tried offering yoga, which we struggled to grow. Despite the hours of marketing we were doing, we had clients trickling in. That is when we came together as a company and reevaluated the whole department. We looked at that failure as a learning experience, and instead of giving up we introduced a new service — and that’s when boot camps were born. Today, we can proudly say our boot camps are booming and are providing the exact experience we always wanted for our clients. You really can make lemonade when life gives you lemons!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fitness Within – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Fitness Within is a 3,900-square-foot fitness and wellness studio dedicated to providing a high level of personal attention and a customized experience to maximize results no matter if it is a one-on-one personal training session, a small-group training session or a boot camp class.

We specialize in, but aren’t limited to, weight management and weight reduction, pre- and post-natal training, rehabilitation, functional training, sport-specific training, strength and conditioning, group training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), Olympic lifts, golf-performance training, runner’s performance training and powerlifting.

We are most proud of what we have created: a community of people who are trying to live a healthier lifestyle and who support one another regardless of their goals. We call ourselves one big “Fitfam” and each of our clients can attest to the many ways they support each other!

What sets us apart from others is that we go that extra mile in everything we do. From sending out thank-you notes to everyone who steps foot in our door to treating every client as a whole, not just the exterior. Health goes deeper than a client’s weight, and we focus on bettering every client’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is here! Our success has given us the ability to now bring our amazing program to the corporate world. Fitness Within is now offering flexible wellness programs to businesses in New England. These wellness programs will offer the same successful results to both employees and employers as our studio programs do for our individual clients.

In addition, we recently introduced three new programs — Nutritional Guidance, Golf Performance Training and Runner Performance Training — so we are looking forward to building and growing these news offerings. Each has its own benefits for clients:

Nutritional Guidance is the cornerstone of our program. Weight loss is more than 70 percent diet, and we do not cut corners when it comes to nutrition. Our clients learn quickly that you cannot out-train a poor diet! You will complete a questionnaire that covers things like health conditions, medications, allergies, and food preferences. We use your BMR (basal metabolic rate) to calculate your daily caloric goal and help design your meal plan.

Our Golf Performance Training program is headed by a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified expert. This program is designed for recreational and professional golfers who want to improve their game. Through the use of video analysis and a physical screening, our expert examines mobility, stability and strength as it relates to your golf swing. Impairments are identified then addressed with an individual, golf-specific program to improve your game and overall longevity.

Runners can now work with a Licensed Athletic Trainer and Track & Field coach to examine your running gait, using movement screening and video analysis to examine such things as: foot strike, joint angles, pelvic stability, and more. Whether you have a “nagging issue” or you would like an objective look at your running mechanics, our analysis and training recommendations can help you get across that finish line with confidence.
