Meet Olga Privina-Fishman of Power Within Hypnosis in Brookline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olga Privina-Fishman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a spiritual family in the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine. We kept many traditions and rituals that have been passed down from generation to generation. Since spiritual practices, herbal healing, seasonal food cycles and meditation practice were routine for me, I hoped that it could be the foundation for a future line of work of healing people and helping them realize their total potentials. So I went off to a medical college and proudly received my diploma in Public Health.

The continuation of my path towards a career as a holistic practitioner was in the year 2000 when I came to America as a refugee with my three and a half-year-old son David. The fascinating aspect of American life for me was the melting pot of cultures I witnessed. Not having been exposed to much diversity in Ukraine, I now wanted to learn all about these new cultures, their traditions, their foods and their histories. I found myself gravitating towards people and sought to learn their stories, who they were, what they liked, where they were from and so on. After several months of American life, I managed to get a job at Starbucks. A Starbucks store is truly a place for human connection!! I soon became a manager of a store and remained in that position for 10 years. That store became my stage, my preparation for the work I do today. My job as a manager presented me an amazing opportunity to connect with and learn about people, whether they were employees or customers. I learned how to become a great coach, how to discover everyone’s hidden talents and how to achieve results. The years of my management career advanced my knowledge of psychology through “hands-on” approach.

In 2014, I finally decided to move on and pursue my passion. The main idea and goal of my future venture was to combine my educational background and knowledge of modern and alternative medicine with years of coaching skills to help people heal themselves. I chose to start with hypnosis because, in my opinion, hypnosis is the most natural and effective way to achieve personal change. I found the New England Institute of Hypnosis and soon after I finished my studies, I opened my practice – “Power Within Hypnosis”.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
To my surprise and dismay, I found that many people fear the word “hypnosis”. Perhaps after watching too many movies about evil hypnotists as well as hoax performers, people hesitated to try hypnosis on themselves. One of my challenges was to find ways to educate people about the practice and its benefits, and then present it in a way for them to truly understand and appreciate what hypnosis is. To refine my English skills and conquer my inhibitions related to public speaking I lead seminars at Lesley University, Newton Community Education, and organized various meet-ups. Continuing on that path, I still hold hypnosis meet-ups in Northborough and teach numerous workshops, which I promote on my FB page.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Power Within Hypnosis story. Tell us more about the business.
“Power Within Hypnosis” specializes in Stress Management and Performance Improvement (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual), smoking cessation, overeating, compulsive behaviors (like nail biting, hair pulling, etc.), as well as childhood trauma leading to fears and issues in adult life. Most of my clients come to me seeking help with stress related issues, which manifest in the behaviors like smoking, overeating, and others.

I use a variety of techniques including classical hypnosis, Ericksonian hypnosis, age regression and parts therapy so I can always find one way or another for my clients to get the desired result.

With my background in medicine and practice in alternative healing modalities, I combine my intuitive wisdom with modern technologies to guide my clients on the path of transformation.

Through my strategic partnership with skilled and talented herbalist and nutritionist, who are versed in the latest techniques and age-old wisdom of herbal healing, I am offering my clients a unique blend of services to help them achieve their goals.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Every day I am grateful for being as lucky as I am. I found my purpose in life and I am following that path. Every client I am able to help is my pride and my pleasure. Often people come to me as a last resort. In many cases their concerns and worries that are on their minds are only side effects of larger issues. I help people connect with themselves in a way conventional medicine cannot achieve. For some, a few hypnosis sessions are enough because they can easily measure the results (for example, recovery from the fear of flights can be easily checked by taking an airplane tour). Some people, on the other hand, have more covert issues and sign up for year-long programs including hypnosis, herbal regimens, and a few workshops.
