Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Baumer.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Chicago-born, Australian-raised and now currently based in Boston, where she is enrolled as a full-time student at Berklee College of Music, 21-year-old singer/songwriter NINA developed her love for music and songwriting from a young age. As she transitioned from being a classical singer into pop/soul, Nina drew from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, and Joss Stone. Before moving to the United States, the 20-year-old had already performed on shows such as Australia’s ‘School Spectacular’, “The Voice” – Australia, and The Netball World Cup Opening Ceremony (Fox, Foxtel).
Since moving to Boston, Nina has released two independent singles and fully immersed herself in the Boston music scene. Having performed at venues such as The ZuZu, Club Bohemia and The Middle East, Nina’s live set boasts of her passion for music and love for her audience. Her quirky and entertaining attitude goes hand in hand with her honest lyrics and melodic songwriting. In March, Nina recently released her first self – titled EP which is available for download and streaming on all platforms. https://ffm.to/ninaep
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Working three jobs, being a full-time student and chasing her artist career, Nina is certainly aware of the struggles to find enough time in a day. “Being a full-time student, working three jobs and chasing my artist career can often be grueling. It means late nights, juggling school projects during work hours, and splitting time between my creative and practical thoughts during shifts or on the way to a gig. I definitely do not stop at a 40-hour workweek and sometimes push myself too hard, but I really enjoy the hustle.
It makes me focused and determined to use every bit of time to my advantage. Also, I know there are other people working just as hard or harder which is inspiring! Most of the sessions for this EP were recorded from 12 am – 4 am and as horrible as that sounds, I just kept thinking, ‘The people in here could be sleeping, but they’re in the studio supporting and believing in your project, so give it everything!’ That’s the mentality I will live by until I get to where I want to be.”
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nina story. Tell us more about the business.
With an unshakeable Australian accent and a down to earth personality, Nina entertaining attitude goes hand in hand with her music. Resonating with her strong passion for self-confidence and being true to oneself, Nina is mostly autobiographical, writing about her own experiences and emotions. With 12 years of classical training, Nina often explores unconventional vocal melodies to compliment her pop/electronic sound.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe that working very hard and taking advantage of opportunities will bring success and a little bit of luck.
