Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Treantafel.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Pirate Girl started about 6 years ago as an Etsy store that sold girly smoking products and hand cut t-shirts. We built a local customer base by travelling and attending festivals and conventions. In the summer of 2015, we opened our brick-and-mortar location in Plymouth which enabled us to expand to the head shop and lounge we are today.
Has it been a smooth road?
One challenge that we encountered is the stigma that comes with marijuana usage. However, we have found that our customers continue to come from all walks of life, and the community to be very supportive. The changes in the laws have definitely helped to bring us more customers who have previously been secretive about their support for cannabis products.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The thing that sets us apart from other smoke shops is the fact that we cater primarily to female smokers. Customers are pleasantly surprised by our relaxed shopping atmosphere in comparison to the strict and up-tight smoke shops in which they are used to shopping.
We are also known for our Puff Puff Paint Nights, which we host bi-weekly on Friday nights in our smoking lounge. Now that cannabis has been legalized, guests are allowed to bring their own while they engage in a laid-back painting class. Many of the attendees don’t drink, so it’s nice for them to have a night out that doesn’t involve the typical bar scene. We plan on expanding our painting events to other mediums as our shop gains fans and attendees.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Plymouth is a great place to start a business. The residents are very supportive to small business owners, and other business owners are always happy to support each other and work together when possible.
