Meet Nicholas Nogueira of Nick Nogueira Photography in Metro West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Nogueira.

Nicholas, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As I was growing up I remember my mother constantly snapping pictures everywhere we went. Whether it was my baseball games, on vacation, or just trips to the playground, the camera was documenting my childhood and the joy within it. Whilst watching the excitement the pictures brought to my family it inspired me to reach out for the camera and try it on my own. I began taking pictures of flowers and landscapes all around me and needless to say it wasn’t exactly my forte. As my style began to progress I found myself inspired by the bicycle stunts that my brother and father would practice in the neighborhood streets day in and day out. The further I journeyed into sports photography, I became intrigued with the idea of capturing the stillness within a moment. With the help of positive feedback from social media, friends, and family I was introduced to the possibility of perusing photography as a career which would have never crossed my mind.

One day when I arrived home from school my mom stumbled upon a photography school that just happened to be close to home. This school, the Hallmark Institute of Photography, turned out to be one of the top photography schools in the nation. On a whim, I applied, toured the facility, and was granted an interview with one of the institute’s top instructors where he would critique my starting portfolio. After the nerve racking half an hour critique I was accepted on the spot and would dive into my future endeavors at the Hallmark Institute of Photography.

From that moment forward, I dedicated my blood, sweat and tears into photography and photography only. My time at Hallmark was a plethora of challenges, emotions, failures, and achievements which taught me how to preserver and become a stronger and well-rounded photographer and individual. In June of 2015 I was granted an award for “Outstanding Portfolio Imagery” and graduated in the top ten percent of my class.

Since then, I have been a part of numerous photoshoots for clients such as Boston Magazine, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins as well as A-list celebrities including Post Malone, Bryson Tiller, G Eazy, Logic, and Rick Ross. I have also had the pleasure of traveling around the United States with pop artist Ivy Layne and her management team. Today, I specialize in sports and portrait photography including weddings, senior portraits, maternity, and families, along with corporate clients all around the world.

You can find me exploring the streets of Boston in search of deeper inspiration and locations to match my creative visions for photography. Or, in front of my computer working my magic

Has it been a smooth road?
Photography has been more of a rollercoaster opposed t0 a smooth road. There have been many ups such as Getting to travel around the US, Canada, and the Caribbean. I have also had the chance to work side by side with many great music artists and celebrities as well as other aspiring artists and business owners around the world. But there has also been a few downs along the way such as the college I attended closing down which took away a-lot of great resources I had and also at times finding constant work has been a struggle but it pushes me each and everyday to work my hardest. As each day goes on I realize that the good times always outweigh the bad times!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I create images to capture the moment of stillness which expresses the raw emotion of the experience that the subject is encountering. By taking advantage of peculiar angles, lighting techniques, and creative visions, my work conveys an experience not thought of by the average person with a point and shoot camera. I have a desire to create images that stand out and provide my audience with a sense of trust, compassion and confidence. I am most proud of the overwhelming amount of positive feedback I receive on a daily basis from my clientele and my social media pages. Without all of the feedback I don’t know if I would be where I am today! What sets me apart from others is my young age (22), my work ethic and my ability to produce amazing images for my clients over and over again.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
There are a-lot of major sports companies out of Boston, such as Rebook and New Balance and quite a few great sports publication companies that are based out of the city. As most of you know Boston sports teams are like no other so I do feel like the city of Boston has countless opportunities for me as a sports photographer. If someone was just starting out I would 100% recommend them to come to Boston if they weren’t in the area already. This city is so diverse and has so much to offer I feel as if anyone who tries their hardest could really make a great name for themselves here!
