Meet Natalie LaFace of Hair & Make-up by Natalie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie LaFace.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a North Shore, Massachusetts native (Marblehead, MA). My deep passion for art started at a very young age. In 3rd grade, I attended Montserrat College of Art by the recommendation of my teacher. I loved painting and sculpting and classes at Monserrat on Saturdays helped me learn more about this field. Throughout my childhood, this was a hobby I wove into my schedule after sports and academics. In high school, I was grateful that Marblehead High School strongly supported the arts and theater. I partly credit my high school art classes and teacher for my success in the arts. They taught me values in this field that I not only could use in sculpting and painting but also in dressing hair and applying makeup. Post high school I continued to paint and sculpt and also started working on live models which I quickly loved. I loved how similar sculpting hair was to sculpting with clay. I loved how shading eye shadows reminding me of blending with watercolors. After receiving my Bachelors from Salem State University with a B.S. in Marketing and Minor in Economics. I worked in publishing with the goal to save money and put myself through cosmetology school. In 2010 I became a board certified licensed cosmetologist. From there, I put into play my business plan for Hair & Make-up by Natalie. I am thankful that my passion for the arts led me to a career in hair and makeup I can truly say I love.

As a seasoned stylist with 10 years of experience in hair and make-up, her entrepreneurial spirit and passion make her an attentive, talented and dedicated artist. Natalie and her husband Giovanni reside on the North Shore with their two boxer pups, Tahnee and Lola.

Natalie is a graduate of Salem State University with a B.S. in Marketing, Minor in Economics and is a board certified licensed cosmetologist.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Patience was a struggle. As much as I wanted to attend college for arts, I knew I needed to learn about business if I ultimately wanted to run a business one day. I also had to persevere through my first job out of college in publishing (not a passion of mine) knowing that financially it allowed me to put myself through cosmetology school. In most recent years I have been able to feel rewarded from my efforts.

Recruiting other hair and makeup artists to help when needed is also a challenge. There is amazing talent in this industry but as a business owner it’s imperative to find someone that will properly represent your company and execute their job with a high level of professionalism.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hair & Make-up by Natalie – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in on-location hair and makeup services. My work as of lately focuses in the bridal and wedding industry. On wedding day brides often want a “glam squad’ for their bridal party and herself. That’s where I come in. I travel to hotels, homes, and even Venus to provide these services.

I am most proud that I’ve earned six awards since I started my company seven years ago. Clients have voted for me as a top vendor in the wedding industry and it earned me the recognition I have today.

My business is focused on quality, not quantity. I personally like to work in the field and at weddings so I ensure me (and my team) are not overbooked or overcommitted on a wedding date. I aim to keep my pricing and travel fees at an affordable rate for my brides and I am willing to customize and tailor a client’s package if needed.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’d like to stay in the wedding industry. If there are changes, it would be expanding beyond wedding hair and makeup services.
