Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Cannistraci.
Naomi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing a weekend farmers markets while working a 9-5 office job. I loved making popovers and other baked goods and decided to do it full time after my office position was outsourced. Popovers are a unique food item and have turned out to be very popular with the public! We are now at several farmers markets, pop ups and special events. Possible retail location coming soon!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was a learning process in the beginning, you find out what works what doesn’t. We try to always have a quality product that people will keep coming back for. It’s a lot of hard work, but very gratifying.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Popover Lady story. Tell us more about the business.
We are based in Melrose and specialize in popovers in a variety of flavors and sizes. Sold mainly at farmers markets, special orders for birthdays, holidays, meetings. We also make fruit pies and scones sourcing local ingredients whenever possible.
I think what sets us apart for other businesses is our unique product and special care we take to make the best quality, fresh and tasty, locally made baked goods.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We were very lucky to get into the farmers markets just as they were peaking in popularity. We have worked with many market managers and fellow vendors that have helped us along the way with advice and encouragement.
