Meet Nancy Vaughan of Onsen Skin Care and Facial Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Vaughan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a makeup artist in the Film Industry in Hollywood back in the 80s. My clients would ask me how they should be cleaning their face, what products they should use and how to handle skin issues that were of concern to them. So I ended up moving into skin care as well. I researched what the good ingredients were, research backing the claims, test studies, side effects, etc. I also wanted to know what ingredients should be avoided. When I found Onsen I fell in love with it. This line has all of the good ingredients and none of the bad. You see results with the first treatment and it just gets better from there. Onsen has many organic ingredients and botanicals. It does not contain paraben, mineral oil, sulfates, glycol or alcohol and not tested on animals.

Onsen stores are franchises. There was a store in California I went into and the owner spoke with me about working with him to open a store in Boston. He has a passion for providing good skin care to customers so they improve their skin and feel great about how they look. He prides himself on great customer experience. This is the first Onsen Store and Salon in the East Coast. The women and men in Boston deserve this wonderful skin care line and we opened our store and salon to provide this amazing product and deliver a memorable customer experience that has customers coming back and telling their friends about us.

Has it been a smooth road?
We opened in October, right as winter was starting. Traffic on Newbury St is much less in the winter than it is in the warmer summer months. But we put our sign out and have steadily built a loyal client base. I already have repeat customers coming back for more. We also ship all over the world. I have out of town customers telling their friends and have orders coming in through email and our website. It is March and we are still here. As the weather warms up we will extend our hours and are looking forward to the busy summer months. We are hiring more staff so we can give all customers the attention they deserve during the busy months.

In the summer months tourists flock to Boston and a lovely spa experience is the cherry on top of a great vacation experience. We are geared to take care of all our local customers who come in for their regular skin care needs as well as introduce out of town visitors to the Onsen line and continue to take care of them by shipping repeat orders anywhere in the world.

Pricing:

Facial services start at $80 for a 30 Min Express facial and go up to $275 for top of the line LED collagen treatment for face and neck.
Waxing starts at $15 for lip or chin and goes up to $80 for full Brazilian or full leg.
