Meet Misty Buchanan Wykes of Misty B in Marblehead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Wykes.

Misty, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been an artist and I am inspired by life in general. The littlest thing can inspire me to paint. The colors in a flower, the leaves in fall, the sun sparkling on a blue ocean. I am most inspired by nature and my paintings reflect that. I love the movement in my paintings so one day I decided it would be cool to make silk dresses with my designs on them. This idea all changed when my husband, Joseph Wykes went to Greece on a business trip.

He was at a conference when a beautiful woman got up on stage with an amazing pair of leggings with artwork on them to help promote her friends business. When my husband came home from his trip he told me I should put my artwork on leggings instead of dresses. I thought it was a fantastic idea! This is how the idea for Misty B got started. When coming up with the name of my company I wanted it to somehow empower women to be the best they can be. Young and old, don’t let anything or anyone stop you from accomplishing your dreams.

My logo says B the Boss, B Brilliant, B Beautiful, B the Best.

I am also establishing a way to help women in need. I want to help one woman at a time. The more successful I become the more I want to make a difference in someone’s life. I truly believe in giving back in this world and creating a ripple effect on one person at a time. I can discuss this with you in further detail if you would like.

Has it been a smooth road?
I always say, ‘Everything good in life takes work!’ I think if you have a dream go for it no matter how big or small. You have to work hard if you want anything to happen.

A lot of people thought I was crazy to start my legging business but I love what I do so I thought I have to go for it. I am so happy I did and I feel like I am just scratching the surface of what I can accomplish in the future. It took me a very long time to find a manufacturer that I trusted and that could make a product I could be proud of. It was a lot of trial and error. I love the leggings that I sell. They are probably one of the most comfortable leggings you can wear and the designs are made to make women feel and look amazing. When a dear friend said they made her butt look good I knew I had a great product. We all want to feel and look our best when we are working out.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am most proud of what my product represents and that is to empower young girls and women of all ages to be the best they can be! My logo tells women they can B the Boss, B Brilliant, B the Best and B Beautiful.

The more successful I become the more I want to give back. I am trying to create a foundation to help one woman in need at a time. My dream one day is to make a difference in this world to help women make their dreams a reality. To help with education, debt, childcare etc. to people that have nowhere else to turn.

I think what sets me apart from other legging companies is that no one else has my paintings on their leggings. I always loved the movement in my artwork and now I have true moveable art every time someone wears them. The leggings are extremely comfortable but also suck you in where you need it most. Also, I really want people to reap the rewards of my success. Isn’t that what true success is all about?!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love living in Marblehead. The people in my town have been very supportive of my endeavors from my art shows to selling my leggings. My daughter is a dancer and all of her friends wear their Misty B’s to their practices. Whenever I am driving in town I always see women walking into their yoga or fitness classes in their Misty B leggings. My daughter loves it and I hope I can inspire her to know she can make her dreams come true one day when she is older. My son also sees how hard I work and knows that we can all be the best we can be. Maybe I will create leggings for boys and men’s sports next.
