Meet Mindi Sokoloski of MS Aerial in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindi Sokoloski.

Mindi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have a history of Photography and was asked by a former client if commercial drone work might be something im interested in. (He was thinking as the imaging perspective) I said sure it sounded like an awesome challenge.

Having a familial background with construction I chose to pursue the building sector.

The language came naturally to me and I soon found myself to be very comfortable in my new role as CEO as MS Aerial. We are a DBE with a focus on continued growth and educational development. Having several employees we enjoy the diversity as much as we enjoy the solidarity of having a strong educated team.

We offer facade inspection, topography studies and Site progression as well as 3D modeling. MS Aerial is growing fast.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
To be blunt it has not been a smooth road. I have two qualities that make me sometimes invisible. One I am a woman and two I am short in stature. I often find myself looked over. Or the biggest annoyance is when someone will shake my male partner’s hand first and basically ignore me. It is incredibly demeaning considering my efforts and the work I pour into this company.

The sweet reward comes when the client is redirected my way to get down to brass tacks and really tackle their job query. They soon realize the situation and allow me to guide them thru a successful experience.

MS Aerial – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What I am mainly proud of is growth and ongoing education. When drones first came out the hype was there but not the capability. As a company we took a backseat to buying frenzy, educating ourselves on robotics, aerodynamics, and FAA regulations. We soon gained enough capital to invest in “commercial grade” drones.

We started off with fabulous tools that allowed us to successfully analyze topography, Inspect buildings and other infrastructure including roads and bridges. What I am most proud of is the team’s insistence to learn and mine for new innovations. If someone finds something new and interesting then we all learn about it.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
There are so many markers for success to me. A full schedule, an excellent reputation, a feeling of notoriety. But among these the most I cherish is my long-term relationship with my clients. I feel like I have a personal relationship with all of the vendors I work with. I feel like I could call them up and run some idea by them and they would be completely receptive and even helpful on how to make my business better. That to me is the best reward. its a feeling of mutual respect.
