Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Fucile.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started dance lessons at the age of five at Mary Flynn Murphy Dance Studio in Somerville under the direction of Kathy Kozul and Sharon Parillo. I continued my passion and love of the art throughout college. I attended Dean College and received my B.A. in Dance with a minor in Business and Psychology, graduating with high honors. I have had many mentors along the way and I am extremely grateful for each and every one of them.
After teaching for many other directors and learning the ropes, I knew it was time for me to accomplish my dream of owning my own dance studio. With the love and support of my husband and family, I was able to make my dream come true. I opened my doors the summer of 2015 with less than twenty students and now in our third season, we are at forty students.
I am also affiliated with the Burbank YMCA. I teach dance classes there and YMCA families are able to take class at my dance studio. We have students from all surrounding cities which I love and believe this is something that makes us unique. We have families from Somerville, Medford, Reading, Stoneham, Charlestown, Winchester and Wakefield. I hope each year we continue to grow. I love this dance family I have created.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was very difficult to find a city and location that would allow the opening of a new dance studio. I ran into many roadblocks, but with a little luck and a lot of determination, I found a great location in a wonderful city!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dance Xhilaration – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dance Xhilaration prides itself on the proper teaching technique for each and every one of their students. Miss Meredith’s philosophy is teaching proper technique to her students. This allows the students to increase their strength and develop as dancers without injury to the body. We have small class sizes which also helps with this.
We offer classes, believe it or not, from ages zero through adult. Classes we offer are Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theater, Pointe, Parent and Me, Zumbini, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern and Jazz Cardio. We are known for our professionalism and fun atmosphere. Our students learn the proper technique while they are also having fun.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to have my dance studio continue to grow in the hopes to hire more professional teachers. This will give my students the knowledge, skill and training they deserve.
