Today we’d like to introduce you to MaryKate McInerney.
MaryKate, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated from Assumption College with an accounting major in 2014. After graduation, I briefly worked for a bank, but I quickly realized that accounting/finance was not my calling.
Skincare had always been an obsession of mine, so I decided to attend the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics in 2014. I later graduated as a Licensed Esthetician from their Master Esthetics (1,200-hour) program with an extensive background in cosmetic products and ingredients.
In high school and my early years in college, I frequently worshipped the sun. Whether I chose to lie outside or visit a tanning bed, I was constantly chasing a tan. When I began esthetic school, I soon learned how damaging the sun, and the radiation it emits, is for the skin. I found out that the sun is the greatest cause of damaged, prematurely aged skin.
I was educated about the body’s largest organ and the harm I had caused to mine over the years, but I still wasn’t ready to embrace my Irish complexion. As a result, I became passionate about airbrush tanning. After a couple of years in the beauty industry, I established Kissed, an organic airbrush tanning service, as a much healthier and safer method for obtaining a glowing appearance. My hope is to educate people on the importance of skin health and other alternatives to sun tanning that look just as natural.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Testing and educating myself on all of the different professional tanning solutions on the market. It has been time consuming, but I have made sure that the colors I offer will meet the needs of all types of skin tones and shades, while only using the most natural, healthiest, and safest ingredients available.
