Today we’d like to introduce you to Mari Cartagenova.
Mari, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I guess I have always been a medium and a psychic. When I was little I would see Angels and orbs in my room and I would talk to them and they would talk back. For me this was just normal. I would always have Spirit communicating with me and I thought that’s how everybody lived. I would even connect with nature and talk to trees and of course as a child I got made fun of for that. I was always different, and I always felt different never the one on the inside, always the one on the outside looking in. At some point I figured out that this Spirit communication was not “normal” for everyone and decided maybe I shouldn’t talk about it. As I grew older I just decided to keep the spiritual mediumistic side to myself. I would still connect with spirits but honestly, I spent a lot of my time trying to ignore them. I wanted to fit in like most kids.
I grew up, went to school and got a master’s in social work and became a therapist. Working in therapy of course you need to be using your intuition which I think made me able to connect to my clients. As I got older and my family grew, Spirit decided they weren’t going to let me not pursue my life‘s work. I went to a medium from the U.K. and He told me that I should be doing what he was doing, and I of course said, “no way, I can’t do that!”, But it got me thinking.
Once my grandmother (who was very psychic as well) passed away she just showed up and became one of my guides. She sorts of became my helper into getting into this line of work. And she was persistent! At that point I just decided I need to pursue this to see if this is what I should really be doing. So, I took classes and studied and found out that this is truly where I belong. Connecting with Spirit and working with people in this way is sort of a natural outgrowth of the therapy work I was doing. It is helping people on many different levels -therapeutically, emotionally, spiritually all while bringing them comfort and peace when connecting with love ones and pets.
Another part of the work I do which sort of found me instead of the other way around is finding lost pets. Many people come to me having lost their pet and Spirit helps me find them. As unbelievable as that sounds it’s true. I do this on my own as well as with a group of other mediums – this group I work with is called Pet Detectives International and it is fun to link with the other mediums and Spirit to find lost pets.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course there are always challenges. I guess the main one has been getting used to trusting Spirit. When I do readings, I have gotten some weird things and I just needed to learn that whatever they give me, I need to give to the client. An example of this was one day I was doing a reading and up popped the image of Squidward, from the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon. Now when I saw this I hesitated for a moment and thought am I really going to tell my client that her grandfather just gave me an image of Squidward?” But I took a deep breath and remembered the old saying for us Mediums you just deliver the mail, you don’t read it”. When I asked my client if she knew what this SpongeBob character meant she nodded emphatically and said “yes! I totally understand that!” Now if I had not trusted Spirit then my client would not have received the information as intended. While things may feel strange, the key is to just let go and Trust!
Medium Mari – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Psychic, Medium, Animal Communicator and I also find lost and missing pets using the guidance of Spirit. I don’t necessarily specialize in one thing over the other as I like to work in all areas. Many times, people seek me out for psychic readings and life guidance as I am also trained as a therapist and I feel both types of work dovetail nicely. When I do a mediumship reading most people want to know if their loved ones are ok and of course they are. Life is much more difficult here then it is on the other side. People also like to seek me out for connecting to their animals either here in the living or passed over. I love working with animals as they are such beautiful souls and carry such honesty with them.
I also occasionally work with a group of mediums and animal communicators looking for lost or missing pets. We as a team are called Pet Detectives International or PDI as we like to call it for short. These ladies are very talented, and I’m privileged to work with them. Depending upon the situation sometimes people might like to work with a group of mediums to find their animal or they might like to work directly with myself. Throughout all my work my greatest goal is to help heal others and bring them confirmation that life does continue after we leave this earth. This is only a chapter in our lives, it is not the whole story.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally consider success like a moving target. I like to set goals for myself and as I achieve them I am proud and satisfied. I then like to set new goals and keep progressing – that is my motto, Keep moving forward. Success can be scary in a way because new experiences can stir up feelings of inadequacy in most people. I tend to just take a deep breath and dive in – I figure you’ve got to start somewhere. If you keep making progress, you will get somewhere. The journey of a thousand steps begins of course, with just one.
