Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Lee Cozzens.
Linda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In the ‘90s I was a young, single mother interested in a career that would give me the flexibility to work from home and make enough money to support myself and my child. I went back to college and chose a new career path. I obtained my national certification and began my career as a court reporter in the Boston area.
In less than a year I had the opportunity to launch my own court reporting agency, Lee & Associates Certified Court Reporters. With my entrepreneurial mindset, I already envisioned what the core values of what my agency would be: quality client relationships, a strong referral network and a loyal staff with negligible turnover.
I took a risk when I made the leap to take on my first Boston client, who is still a client to this day. In that first year, I wore so many hats and was excited when I grew the business to the point where I was able to hire support staff. Since then my team has diligently focused on expanding our client base — we now serve hundreds of attorneys across New England.
As digital recordings became more prevalent, I explored how to harness emerging technology to drastically reduce the downtime and complicated logistics involved in receiving audio files, transcribing and delivering transcripts and reports to our clients with increased speed and complete accuracy. That’s when I launched LeeScribe, a subsidiary business that avoids all the frustration and hassles associated with traditional transcription. We now provide globally a state-of-the-art, digital solution to capture the client’s voice.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of my biggest challenges is matching the right court reporter with the right attorney for each daily assignment. Everyone has a personality and a personal style in which they work. Lee & Associates’ reputation hinges on a collaborative team environment where both attorneys and reporters have an efficient and friendly working relationship. Our clients have come to expect the latest, cutting edge technology.
What were you like growing up?
My parents were both natives of Massachusetts and my father spent his career working for the telephone company, which he called “Ma Bell.” My mother was a stay-at-home-mom. I was their only daughter and was born and raised in Quincy,
Growing up with three brothers made me pretty resilient and tenacious. Those characteristics have helped me immeasurably to hold my own in a male-dominated industry, and have served me well as I’ve built and grown my businesses over the years.
