Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Glattstein.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in the business; my family had a factory in Manhattan where fine jewelry and watches were made. I’ve had various positions in the retail, wholesale, stone sourcing, and manufacturing aspects of the business. Wanting to have more of a creative voice, and pursue the more scientific details of gems to hone my expertise, I decided to start my own business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been better than I expected, to be honest. 🙂 I pride myself on being able to offer a unique experience in fine jewelry to my customer; we do on-sight manufacturing here, and when the customer can see how the process works, it can be very reassuring -and also fun!
Carat Concierge – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a concierge jeweler in Boston. I offer a unique experience to my customer; there is no big, carpeted showroom. Instead, I see customers in our offices where we do everything from casting, CAD design, and full jewelry manufacturing. A graduate of the GIA Diamonds & Diamonds Grading courses as well as Colored Stones and Gem Identification, I’m known for spending plenty of time with my customers. For stone sourcing, I show my customers how to distinguish the differences in gems using tools like a Gemscope, UV lighting, and a jeweler’s loupe. Having in-house CAD allows me to work closely with clients to create one-of-a-kind jewelry using various gems, different kinds of precious metals, and sentimental design.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Each time I get a new referral letting me know the reason they reached out because their friend told them I had made the process very smooth, approachable, and enjoyable.
