Meet Kristen Wright of Kristen Wright Design in Quincy

  • Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Wright.

Kristen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have known since Kindergarten I wanted to pursue a career in Interior Design. I think it helped that my mother is a Realtor so I have many fond memories from childhood tagging along with her to showings and open houses, dreaming up how I would redesign the homes. In High School, I obtained an internship at a local boutique paint store with a growing Interior Design business. I was later hired to work in the showroom and continued to work there while getting a Business degree at Suffolk University. Upon graduating, I was promoted to Showroom Manager.  The hands on experience was vital and I enjoyed working with customers with different design sensibilities and budgets. In 2013, I relocated to the South Shore and worked for Robin Pelissier Design in Hingham. This provided incredible experience working on full-service, high end residential projects in addition to a boutique hotel design in Edgartown. Since 2016, I have been overseeing the Interior Design of several projects for Harborview Development, a Hingham based Real Estate developer. This role has given me much greater exposure to construction techniques and achieving crowd pleasing design that is also budget friendly. I officially launched Kristen Wright Design in 2016 (although I had consulted with my own clients prior to that) and have thoroughly enjoyed working with clients on e-design and full service Interior Design projects in and around Massachusetts and beyond.

Has it been a smooth road?
It depends on the day! Interior Design is often misinterpreted as a glamourous job, but anyone who has spent time on an active construction site will tell you otherwise. I love being a part of the process and out in the field and on job sites! Since I got my start in the Interior Design in 2002, I have seen the industry evolve and change rapidly. The Boston Design Center has undergone many transformations over the year’s indicative of the changing industry. Consumers are increasingly informed with many tools and online resources at their disposal. I offer great value in providing high level service to my clients, helping them pull together their spaces mixing retail and to the trade sources, with vintage or antique finds. I am extremely passionate about Interior Design and very connected on Social Media and try to stay as up on new offerings and attend as many trade shows as my schedule permits. One struggle I feel we all are facing is how quickly trends change as we are all exposed to so much visual information, how connected we are as a society but I thoroughly enjoy the collaborative process with my clients.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kristen Wright Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

I specialize in offering residential Interior Design services. No two projects are the same and each project I have worked on truly is a reflection of the client’s unique personalities and lifestyles. I’m very proud of the diverse projects I have worked on. It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness the reactions of my clients experiencing the transformation of their home and response to ideas that they aren’t afraid to admit they wouldn’t have thought of on their own.

I enjoy mixing high and low priced items and strongly believe Interior Design doesn’t have to be a luxury and should be accessible to all budgets. I am passionate about color and textiles as they set the tone for any space. I love helping clients source light fixtures, art, rugs and accessories as these items can differentiate a space and infuse it with the inhabitant’s unique personalities.

I’ve been exposed to fantastic architecture, growing up in Concord, MA and later studying Historic Preservation in Charleston, SC. This exposure to many classic homes has given me a great appreciation for good bones of a house and accentuating them.  My background in business and experience working for Harborview Development has helped me able to giving my clients the biggest bang for their buck. I pride myself on not discriminating about where I shop and have a knack for finding furniture pieces to transform and breathe new life into as well as offbeat accessories. I’m often found braking for yard sales and estate sales on weekends and I love the thrill of the hunt!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love living in Quincy! I’ve called it home for 5 years. I am a staunch supporter of this community and have enjoyed watching it gain in popularity since I moved here. I appreciate the proximity to the ocean and miles of coastline, the easy access to Boston and the gateway to the South Shore. The restaurants are unmatched. I am very proud to be involved with many local organizations (Quincy & South Shore Young Professionals, Quincy Women’s Network) and hope to become more involved with the city as time goes on. Also, greater Boston keeps upping its game with resources and showrooms for Interior Design projects which is very exciting!
