Meet Kerri Herlihy, Makeup Artist in Norwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Herlihy.

Kerri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing makeup for MAC Cosmetics back in 1999. I worked for them, full-time, for a few years before branching out on my own. I began working with a handful of local photographers. Andrew Swaine, and Melissa Mahoney were two that I owe a lot of my success to. After years of fashion and corporate work, I decided to try dive into the wedding world. In 2010 I started my bridal makeup business. I started off with 5 to 10 weddings a year, and am currently up to 40 to 50. I still do photos shoots and private clients on the side, but weddings are my passion.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all! The first 10 years were a constant struggle. It is very difficult to establish yourself as a makeup artist in Boston. It took many years to build up the clientele that I have now. I always had to have a side job to make ends meet. It wasn’t until the weddings started to take off that the pressure went away. I always make sure to advise any artists starting out to be patient! It will not happen overnight. Networking and truly getting yourself out there is so important to growing your business!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kerri Herlihy Makeup Artist – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a professional Makeup Artist that specializes in bridal makeup. I also work with local and New York based fashion, music, and boudoir photographers. I have private clients as well, and do one on one personal makeup lessons.

I am known for a natural, clean look. The industry is so saturated with heavy makeup looks. I prefer a lighter approach to makeup. I pride myself in my clients looking like the best version of themselves. I feel this sets me apart from a lot of other artists.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how tight knit our city is. Being so small, it has made it so much easier to build many long lasting friendships in, and out of my industry. I love how proud we all are to live here. From our sports to our history. Bostonians love to tell everyone how happy we are to live here. The only thing I dislike about Boston is the winter!
