Meet Kelly Lorenz of Kelly Lorenz Imagery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Lorenz.

Kelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After teaching Elementary school for a few years, I decided it was time for a career change. I began taking workshops at The New England School of Photography, and quickly discovered my passion for photographing people. Fast forward 13 years, I have photographed hundreds of weddings, and look forward to continue meeting/photographing more fabulous people!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Interacting with couples, and photographing their weddings/families is the best part of my job! However, when I began shooting weddings 13 years ago, I was shooting film! I would arrive at a wedding, shoot about 30 rolls of film, have my local photo lab develop and print the photos, and hand the proofs over to the couple. Done and done. Throughout the past several years, I have switched to shooting digitally, and the process is completely different. I now shoot thousands of images per wedding, and instead of having a lab process the images, I personally edit each and every image. These days, shooting is only 10% of what I do! The other 90% of my time is spent marketing, networking, processing images, blogging, accounting, etc. I enjoy these aspects of my work, but it has been challenging to find enough time to do it all!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kelly Lorenz imagery – what should we know?
Kelly Lorenz Imagery is a Boston based photography business, specializing in weddings and families. I tell people that I became a photographer because I’m nosey! One of my favorite things to do is watch people. I love to watch them interact, and look for the unique way each couple connects during those brief moments when no one else is looking. Those are by far the best moments to capture on film. Reactions to a sweet smirk. A whispered inside joke. A stolen glance between meet-and-greet times with relatives you haven’t seen in decades. That said, I approach each wedding as a true collaboration between my clients and I. Through continuous communication, I am able to gain a sense of what is important for me to capture throughout their wedding.
