Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Wentzell.
Kelli, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As long as I can remember. I wanted to be a massage therapist. After high school, I went to an open house at a local massage school and gathered all the information needed to enroll. However, life took a different direction when I discovered I was with child! A child who became a vital motivational asset in my life’s journey.
I put the dream on hold until 15 years later when after a corporate lay-off, I entered a workforce reduction program and discovered a re-education grant was being offered. I applied for the grant and was denied. Not taking no for an answer, I revamped my proposal and was awarded $10,000 and enrolled in the program. I graduated the program just as my unemployment ran out which didn’t leave me much time to find a job.
Upon graduation, I began my job search and was frustrated with the compensation and structure being offered, I opted to open my own center. In 2005. I rented a 700 square foot basement suite and began my journey as a solo practitioner. As my clientele grew, I began hiring other massage therapists and started knocking down walls and adding treatment rooms.
I became an Infant Massage Instructor in 2008 and added a studio space to host classes. The new space also allowed us to hire yoga instructors and add yoga classes to our service offerings. In 2015, I became a yoga instructor myself and started hosting my own classes.
Eventually, we out grew the space and in June of 2017, we relocated and now occupy a 4,300 square feet facility spanning three levels. One level houses an amazing studio with plenty of natural light, hardwood floors and 20-foot cathedral ceilings. This is where we host yoga classes, infant massage Instruction, meditation classes, community acupuncture, spa parties, fundraisers, self-care workshops and much more.
The other levels house a welcoming reception area containing a local artisan boutique, two separate client lounges, an assessment room and six service treatment rooms. Allowing us to again expand our service offerings to include esthetic services.
Our new facility also came with plenty of wall space in which we designed three separate exhibit areas to display the work of various local artists. It’s truly an amazing space which revolves around the communities we serve.
Has it been a smooth road?
A smooth road, is there any such thing? There have been many forks and detours along the way! I could write a book detailing all I have encountered, and I plan to so, stay tuned!! Honestly, the secret was to turn each into a learning experience and use them to help pave our way toward success.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Theracopia Therapeutic Wellness Center story. Tell us more about the business.
There’s a great story regarding how I came up with the name Theracopia. However, the story is as long as it is great! In summary, I wanted a name which sounded not only therapeutic yet abundant while at the same time, giving thanks to our clients – I believe I nailed it!
For the 14th consecutive year, Theracopia has been named Southborough’s #1 Readers Choice for Day Spa/Massage and reclaimed regional bronze status in the 2018 Readers Choice Awards.
Where most massage groups offer a 50/80-minute session utilizing a single style or technique (i.e., Swedish, Deep Tissue, etc.), Theracopia provides a customized 60/90-minute sessions utilizing multiple techniques based on individual client needs. Providing a session that is not only relaxing and enjoyable, but also therapeutic and long-lasting.
Theracopia is committed to providing therapeutic massage and wellness services in a relaxed, stress-free environment where you can feel confident that your health needs will be met.
Our slogan also serves as our mission statement and we strive to live up to it: “We’ll lend our hand to ease what ails you.”
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
When I initially decided to go to massage school, there was only one school in the area. The second time around, the profession had grown and there were several schools to choose from, making the decision harder.
I feel over the next decade; the field of massage therapy will continue to grow and become more widely recognized in the medial field as an integral part of a persons overall physical and mental well-being.
