Meet Katherine Henry of Katherine Henry Boudoir in Reading

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Henry.

Katherine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an interest in photography and during college I studied both photography and graphic design. I received my degree in Visual Arts. I love using my design background throughout my photography business, designing and laying out my clients’ albums is always so much fun,

After college, I worked full time as an in-house designer for 8 years. I was still taking photos and started picking up weddings on the weekends! My brides were starting to ask about Boudoir photos and that was when it all started to happen. After my first boudoir marathon day, I was hooked!

Over the next few years, I shifted from weddings and boudoir to completely focusing on boudoir. I love everything about a boudoir session from the hair and makeup to all the fashion, and the best part is watching my clients feel empowered, confidence and strong. Each client has their own story and reasons for coming to the studio. Some women come to celebrate an upcoming wedding, some are celebrating a milestone and others are treating themselves after a life change.

I opened my studio location in Reading, MA five years ago and business has continued to grow year over year as more women learn about boudoir and hear about the experience from their friends who have also done sessions.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running a business if full of exciting times and also more challenging ones. Since opening my studio five years ago I have seen the popularity of boudoir increase. Earlier in my career when I would tell people what my specialty was I found many people didn’t know what boudoir was all about. Over the past few years I feel that boudoir is becoming more main stream and people know what I’m talking about when I tell them what I do!

When I left my design job in 2012 to focus on boudoir full time, it was definitely scary. Will clients find me? Will I be lonely working by myself? Will women still want boudoir in the years to come? I’ve found that my marketing/design background has come in pretty handy when running my own business and the need for boudoir is continuing to grow! As one women does a shoot and tells her friends they too want to get in on the fun!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Katherine Henry Boudoir – what should we know?
Katherine Henry Boudoir is located just a bit north of Boston and is on the MBTA line. Being located between Boston and New Hampshire I have clients coming from both locations to their shoots! I’m always so flattered when clients travel to a shoot and I’ve clients come from not only other parts of the country, like Kentucky and New York, but also as far as Europe, Canada, United Arab Emirates and the Virgin Islands!

My boudoir sessions are full of laughter, beauty and confidence. I always explain to my clients that you don’t need to be a model or be a pro in front of the camera to have your session done. I will walk you through it every step of the way. From picking out wardrobe to demonstrating posing – I have you covered!

When clients leave my sessions, they have a gorgeous final printed product that represents them at this time in their lives. I always tell my clients I’m all about variety, and what this means is you will have sexy photos (maybe for a spouse/fiancé/partner!), laughing photos (that totally represent your silly side) and really beautiful portraits (you will want to show all your best friends!). The images are tasteful, elegant and sexy.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family and friends have always been so supportive! I’ve had many friends who modeled for me early on and still come to the studio when I have a new piece of furniture I want to practice posing on!

I work very closely with Tara Vaccaro Gudmundsen ( who is such a talented creative!
