Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Gallo.
Joseph, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the president and founder of Plantscape Designs, Inc. (PDI). In 1972, I created PDI as a way to supplement my personal income as a high school teacher. Having studied biology, botany and ecology in obtaining my BA & Masters degrees, I was able to apply my knowledge of plants to help further enhance the esthetics of offices and building lobbies as well as augment the health aspects of interior workplaces by using live green plants.
As the years passed, not only did PDI grow in number of new clients and staff members, but also the need for environmentally safe workplace interiors became more of a consumer demand. PDI, since its inception, has emphasized the importance of proper care of plants in business environments. I have found that a staff of caring and knowledgeable technicians, visiting once a week to care for the plants, results in a more beautiful environment. The plants remain healthier, enabling them to do the job of cleaning the air of toxins which are emitted into every office environment.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Dot.com crash set us back with loses of clients. Then the 2008 Great Recession was another setback.
Over these last ten years Plantscape Designs Inc. has increased our client base from restaurants and auto show rooms to high tech start-ups and Pharmaceutical companies.
PDI expansion issues such as added staff members and greater territory covered needed to be addressed.
Brian Guilfolye, was hired to further add knowledge and credibly to our growing company. He was trained as a horticulturalist at Stockbridge school of Horticulture at University of Mass Amherst.
Training programs in green plant care conducted by both Brian and myself further assisted our company to answer the needs of highly sophisticated customers.
Plantscape Designs, Inc. of 45 years of service has grown to 20 staff team members. Working together to create and maintain beautiful esthetically designed offices and lobbies for the Boston / 128 RTE business community.

Over our 45 years of existence at PDI we have had many proud moments. Acquiring successful, well known accounts such as: Microsoft, Goodrich , Mullan Advertising, Adobe Software, Sun Microsystems, Burlington Mall, MIT entire campus, Cambridge Saving Bank, Eastern Saving Bank , Clarks Shoes, Children’s Hospital , TD Bank North. As well as numerous startups such as Zoll Medical who created the defibrillator and Enel Energy etc…. PDI has been proud to be associated and to team up with their people and services.
