Meet Dr. John Pappas of Masterpiece Dentistry @ Copley in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. John Pappas.

Dr. Pappas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ok 1st of all I want to thank you for inquiring about the practice! It means a lot to us here at Masterpiece Dentistry at Copley to be featured in your publication. I was born in Boston to immigrant parents, both of whom were from Greece. My father came to the United States at a very young age through Ellis Island, and supported his family back in Greece. At the of age 16, my father sponsored his siblings to come to the United States. I grew up, and still live in Quincy, Massachusetts, The City of Presidents!

I became interested in dentistry as a teenager when I had my teeth straightened not by using braces, but rather by using a bite appliance, kind of like a precursor to Invisalign. I went to Boston University for my undergraduate degree (Biology and Classics 1999) and then to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (DMD 2003). Upon graduation, I began my dental career as an associate in Winchester MA. After about 4 years into my associateship, I decided it was time for me to spread my wings and become a solo practitioner. I really love Boston, so it was only natural for me to practice in Boston.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Rarely are things smooth when it comes to opening a practice, but, I’m sure there are plenty of other dentists who had many more challenges than I when it comes to opening your practice. I feel very fortunate to have such a great practice in the heart of the city. We have a great team and great patients.

Please tell us about Masterpiece Dentistry @ Copley.
Masterpiece Dentistry at Copley is a boutique general dental practice that focuses on cosmetic dentistry and Invisalign. We use the latest and best materials, we take pride in treating our patients professionally and compassionately. What sets our practice apart is our attention to detail, knowing our patients, and treating everyone personably with respect. We also have the best team in the city- and they happen to also be smart and funny.

Karen at the front desk is so thorough and helps all our patients with their appointments; Denise and Laurie are super dental assistants who know so much about procedures and how I do them. Cathy and Marissa are extremely personable hygienists who care a lot for our patients. We have a great time on a daily basis and that emotion transmits to the patients; they can feel the camaraderie.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
There are so many favorite memories from childhood, but if I had to pick one, it would be performing Greek Folk Dances in Greece for the 1st time. Now I enjoy watching the younger dancers I teach perform in big performances. In addition to dentistry, I also direct the Greek Folk Dance Ministry through the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston in my spare time.
