Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Ring.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduating cosmetology school I began working in a full-service salon in Chelsea MA right away. I love the coloring and cutting hair, but quilt learned styling hair was always my favorite. For the last five years I’ve worked at style bars, which include blowouts & updos. I love making people feel beautiful!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
He not been a smooth road. They explain to you when you’re in school that building your clientele will be hard but when you have multiple friends in the industry it’s almost harder. It took me about 2 1/2 years to get a solid clientele but once I did it never stopped growing!
Having multiple friends that are also hairstylists is difficult because you have the same immediate clientele. Thinking outside the box to self-promote yourself can be hard but achievable. Social media plays a big role in promoting your work! People love social media, so I try to post daily!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The company I work for Is a style bar. We specialize in blowouts & updos, natural nails (gel manicures, pedicures), makeup with and without airbrush foundation, & full body waxing. I am known for one of the best blowouts around. I’m ordering to get a good style to last you need to have someone who can do a great blowout on you & that’s me!
Outside of my main job I do a lot of colors on my previous clients for house calls. I am known for my blondes and baylage for sure!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was the youngest of 3. We never had an easy childhood; my parents worked all the time to provide all they could for us. My dad was diagnosed with cancer when I was a freshman in high school. He was my best friend and I always tried to block the fact of him being sick out. The day he passed was one of the worst days of my life. It didn’t seem real. He always knew I was creative and had a passion for hair and I know he would be so proud of me, my mother as well who passed away from mesothelioma a few years later. I was always the loud goofy “crazy” one in my family, talking in accents, making everyone laugh. I went to college at American an international College in Springfield MA for a semester and shorty after beginning realized this wasn’t for me & that’s when I decided to go to school for cosmetology and I couldn’t be happier on the choice that I made.
