Meet Jeri Solomon of Jeri Solomon Floral Design in Stoneham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeri Solomon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At age 16 my first job was in a flower shop. I worked at a variety of floral companies through high school and college. When I graduated, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I got another job in a flower shop and figured I’d make some money until I got a “real job.” After several years I started to think maybe this is a “real” profession. And shortly after that I took the plunge to start my company. I did not like being in a retail setting, but always loved working on events. So when I ventured out, I decided not to have a retail location, but rather a studio space where I could focus on events. I built slowly (my first “studio” was my parents’ garage) and have consciously kept my business small (we take a limited number of events per week and I am the only full time employee) so that I can continue to be involved with the clients and designing the flowers, not just running the business. July 1, I will celebrate 24 years in business. 🙂

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anyone who says it’s always been “smooth” is lying. Running a successful small business can be challenging. Some struggles along the way have been 2 recessions, increasing competition, keeping up with the rapid change of technology. (The internet was not a “thing” when I started my business.) Positive attitude, hustle and not resting on past successes is what keeps me “in the game.”

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jeri Solomon Floral Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Jeri Solomon Floral Design focuses on floral decor for special events. The majority of our work is weddings however we do other social events and corporate events too. Our style is timeless, classic and elegant. Our clients want gorgeous flowers that people will notice and talk about. “Understated elegance” is a word we hear a lot. We believe that in addition to our beautiful designs we offer impeccable service. Our motto is “Weddings are stressful. Flowers shouldn’t be.” Every interaction with a client is aimed to reduce the stress of planning the event. We are responsive, transparent and excellent communicators. We want our clients to feel like “Jeri’s got this.”

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To continue to provide beautiful flowers and excellent service to our clientele. In the works- I have some ideas to streamline the selection process that a client goes through when choosing their floral company. I’m also in the process of writing a book with wedding planning tips.
