Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Huynh.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off in 2012 when I finished high school and enrolled in Empire Cosmetology school on West St. After finishing school I quickly paid my dues as an assistant in a few Newbury st salons. Refining my skills with hair and finding my talents in makeup artistry. Editorial makeup is my aesthetic, and the style that best suited me.
Being able to unleash that in photo shoots, beauty shoots, and the runway was key in my development as an artist.
For me, life is all about how you play the game with the cards you’ve given. In the next 5 years, I was dealt many cards from being wardrobe styling, being a brand ambassador, being a modeling and acting instructor, being a lead speed dating hostess, model consulting, magic the gathering teacher, etc.
Currently, I am the art director of a non-profit and editorial hair and makeup artist.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, who hasn’t faced challenges along the way. We have to know the darkness to appreciate the light right? I would say one of my ongoing battles is social media. It’s easy to dwell in ones professional insecurities when the industry you work in is centered around the way something looks.
About: My brand #fabbyjen I offer to blow dry/ packages, updo/up styling, and wedding hair styling. Day and night time makeup, signature makeup, bridal/wedding makeup, and makeup classes.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Passion. I have a passion for life and for things that I set my mind on. And if I can name another one, flexibility. I never expected to have some of the experiences that I luckily got to be a part of, if it wasn’t for me going with the flow and going with the current instead of against it.
