Today we’d like to introduce you to Jean Fogg-Brock.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
From an early age I’ve known I was to be an artist. Several family members painted landscapes and I often sat for portraits. I was free to roam my mother’s studio and use the materials found there and grew up in a house where the interior was painted by my father in fanciful colors and brushwork. Having worked for my father’s silk-screen printing business, I felt most comfortable in the world of printmaking and made it my major in Art School. I later made my living as a decorative painter and muralist.
Please tell us about your art.
After moving to Cape Cod, I found my way, for a time, back to landscape painting and dry point etchings. Looking for more freedom of expression I gradually changed my subject matter to the abstract, exploring mixed media collage incorporating dry pigments, silk fabric, found objects, and plaster into the work. Whether created on panels canvas or paper, I try to convey a flow, and energy of line, color, shape that makes sense.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I find it helpful to work alongside fellow artists on a regular basis and often share the studio. And the art classes here, such as The Fine Arts Work Center, and Castle Hill are excellent.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I show my work out of our studio/gallery here in Provincetown, Ma. and participate in the members exhibits at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
