Meet James Norton of Revolution Bicycle Repair in Jamaica Plain

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Norton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been interested in mechanics as long as I can remember. Later as a young adult, I was a bicycle courier for many years. Not long after I started riding I quickly realized that I paying for bicycle repairs that with just a few specialty tools I could perform myself. I got a job at an LBS and soon thereafter quit riding to focus on fixing bicycles full time.

A couple years later I realized there is a pretty thick glass ceiling working for other people and decided to start making plans to open up my own shop. I saved every penny I could for a few years and with the financial help of a few friends just went for it.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s not always been a smooth road but none the less a road I’d walk (or ride) down again. The toughest hurdles for me were buying out a business partner that I had at one point and dealing with an incredibly aggressive Dept or Revenue 🙂

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We fix bicycles faster and cheaper than anyone else in Metro Boston, and we do so with surgical precision, expertise and a smile. What sets us apart from other shops is our no-nonsense non-corporate vibe. and the volume at which we enjoy our music playing!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Boston is a rad city to have a bicycle shop in, possibly the best! If you have the chops I’d highly recommend jumping into the fray!
