Meet Jamaal Wornum of One Love Sports Academy in Dorchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamaal Wornum.

Jamaal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am 36 I was born and raised in Boston as a youth I experienced many hardships inside my home which led to a lot of mistakes made as a teenager. My adulthood was the same and it was prison that slowed me down and changed my thinking. When I was released I worked for a few companies and that experience led me to wanting to start my own company and decided the only job I would work is with the youth and giving back making sure they don’t make the same mistakes I made. First thing I did was start a clothing line, next I was blessed with the opportunity to be an Outreach Worker for the City of Boston. Now I have started my own non-profit company “OneLoveSportsAcademy” and we teach youth different life skills thru sports and other curriculum trainings.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Watching my mom struggle with her issues, not growing up without a father, being raised around violence, my younger brother was murdered, I met my father for the first time at 32 4 months later he passed away I never physically saw him we just spoke on phone first time was in a casket.

One Love Sports Academy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in developing youth in Sports and in life. We are known for youth developmental leagues for various sports. I’m most proud that even thru everything I been thru I’m still able to complete my goals. We put emphasis on the youth and craft our leagues around their culture of today.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is not giving up no matter what comes your way.
