Meet Greg Justus of Greg Justus Modern Impressionism

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Justus.

Greg, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Art has always flowed through my veins. Even at age five, I went door to door in my neighborhood, selling my artwork, making a handful of change that I didn’t even know how to count. It wasn’t that I wanted to be an artist sometime in the future when I grew up, I already knew I was an artist. My brain was always thinking, looking at, and creating art. It was the essence of my entire being.

After receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University, like many artists, I was raising a family and working a full-time job while still pursuing my art career. I was fortunate to land in a career in sales and marketing, which in hindsight was invaluable as I market my own work now. In October of 2013, my wife (who’s a nurse and much smarter than me), came up with a plan for me to become a full-time artist. This enormous gift has given me the time and focus to create and explore my own work. I spend a lot of time in the studio pushing color around, which is a dream come true.

In addition to my obsession with creating art full of color and texture, I’m also very passionate about using my gifts to try to make the world a better place. I teach monthly art classes at local nursing homes and at a cancer treatment center. It’s so rewarding to help people take their mind off their worries, while at the same time helping them unleash their inner artist. I also work closely with many non-profit organizations including the Victory Center and Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio.

I’m very proud and humbled to have helped to develop a mobile pediatric art program with Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio, where I provide art lessons for hospitalized pediatric oncology patients. I also had the privilege of illustrating three children’s books for the series “Someone I Know Has Cancer.” I hope to continue and expand my work like this in the future.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To quote author Napoleon Hill, “Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.” One of the biggest challenges for all artists is getting their work and name out into the world. I struggle with this also. What works for one artist might not work for another.

You have to relentlessly pursue ways to promote your work, whether it’s online, in a gallery, at art fairs or any other avenue you might find. Life is short and there’s no secret formula for success, so take some chances!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Greg Justus Modern Impressionism – what should we know?
