Meet Frank Makrides of Tunnel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Makrides.

Frank earned a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Massachusetts. His experience ranges from being an early employee of successful startups like that was acquired by Terra Lycos for $207M, to working at Fortune 500 companies like Cisco Systems and BAE Systems. He has been a project engineer, manager and project leader for global initiatives for 20+ years. His many responsibilities in the field of defense/aerospace engineering include all program/project phases from conception through sustainment, team building, schedule and cost ownership. Frank has extensive knowledge of program/project responsibilities in both software/hardware initiatives. He holds patents and has been published. Frank holds Project Management Institute’s – Project Management Professional, Lean, & Six Sigma certifications. His deep background in crypto currencies and block chain technologies led him to found Crypto Boston, the largest and most diverse block chain meet up in the Boston area. From here Frank founded Tunnel and the team grew out of the Crypto Boston group organically. Today Tunnel has already delivered and demonstrated their prototype system and are on their way to delivering their Testnet in the next couple of months. Tunnel’s focus is on providing cutting edge payment solutions using next generation block chain technologies. Tunnel’s solution far exceeds the performance and scalability of all the current solutions available today in the market space. The plan is to launch the full Mainnet system by Q4 2018.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far it has been a smooth road for the most part. We know there are potentially many hurtles along the way, but we are confident in our team, our leadership and advisors to hopefully steer us in the right direction.

Please tell us about Tunnel.
Tunnel will be an instant, feeless, scalable, secure, decentralized and eco-friendly electronic cash system with confidential transactions, i.e. an all-in-one protocol and will revolutionize the block chain/crypto currency industries. Our core technology combines two foundational crypto currency data structures: Block chain and Directed Acyclic Graph with added confidential transactions in one protocol.

The Tunnel coin and the overall system will be developed from the TunnelBlocks™ protocol. This will enable an ecosystem of applications and services to be built upon this network infrastructure. The entire crypto currency and block chain ecosystem has been evolving toward the moment where one currency will be designed to satisfy the needs of all – and the TunnelBlocks™ protocol represents that image.

There are many fragmented solutions in the crypto currency space leading to no one protocol having all the necessary characteristics essential for mass adoption. Most digital assets are separated into protocols offering the benefits of either: store of value, instant transactions, feeless transactions, high levels of scalability, confidential transactions or some combination of the above but not all of the above. As an example, Bitcoin, the first mainstream application of block chain technology, allowed parties to exchange digital store of value between any two accounts, regardless of geographical location without utilizing traditional currency-exchange methods (centralized currency exchange or banking institutions). This revolutionary technology included other unprecedented features, including solving the double-spend problem and providing an immutable ledger. Unfortunately, the nascent technologies had their limitations, including high network transaction fees, long transaction times, and a severe lack of global scalability. Despite almost a decade of emerging block chain applications, no protocol exists yet that combines all necessary features into a single solution – until now.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve started this venture sooner.

  • Tunnel is completely free to use, we have no transaction fees unlike other payment systems like visa/mastercard.
