Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezechiaste Pompilus.
Ezechiaste, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I really did not have any previous memories of myself growing up and I really wanted some way to remember the past or be remembered and I thought ” I do not want anyone else to go throughout life forgetting important memories and crucial times”. I’ve been taking pictures since I was younger with those disposable cameras and I really had a lot of fun, I still look at my old family picture books and glance at my old prints and honestly it takes me back and that euphoric feeling is what I want everyone else to have, that moment to recall something really special to you at the time. As times changed so did technology so I didn’t not get my first camera until I got my first job when I was a Senior at High School, after that my passion and love for photography just sky-rocketed. With praise from friends and family and also tons of self-motivation. As I entered college at Bridgewater State University I entered doing something that made a lot of money and really was ensure about my future with this major all the time.
Computer Science had high pay and that’s all I was fascinated too however at the time I didn’t not release you also need to love doing this job because I would be doing it every day for the rest of my life. So, I switched from Computer Science to Communications with a concentration of Film, Video and Media studies and I never regret it a bit.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a completely smooth road, I often see moments of inactivity with my business as I’m still in School and a large portion of the time I’m either working part-time on campus or in-class so I really struggled with finding that balance. These past few months I felt bare without photography, like a major piece of what made me “Ezy” was missing and I made myself a promise this year to never lose my artistic side as this phrase even though it’s very simple, speaks great volumes “The world without Art is just “eh”.” I praise whoever made that phrase because my artistic side is my dynamic side and without it I don’t know how I would be anymore.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is a Photography business, that I have been running for about three and a half years now. I am the Owner and also the only photographer on my brand with a few assistants on shoots. I specialize in Portrait style photography whether it be high-end, business, urban fashion and also have been doing a great internship with my mentor for weddings photography, now having a great background in weddings and events I see as it a challenge to have your strong grasps as a few styles however not be complacent with just those styles and eventually seek more with yourself as I believe if you get content as an artist you will never grow anymore. I’m very proud as opened my business and began making my parents happy as I saw me doing something I love, my face lit up whenever I spoke about photography and that love channels into my work 100%. I make sure to give more than the maximum amount of effort to make sure that the person I’m working with is more than comfortable because it’s really not all the Photographer’s job to get the great photo, is a team job to work with each other and understand each other in order to make the shoot go very successful because if you are comfortable, they are comfortable and I think a lot of people fail to make their subject feel okay.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I generally base myself in the Boston Area as there is a lot of local artists. multiple opportunities to get your name out there. The city is very good as with a larger population there is always an opportunity to take more photos and collaborate with other people which is best feeling when two photographers meet up and share both of their creative minds and make something beautiful happen. I would say start small at first in the city as there will be many others doing the same thing as you, an aspiring person starting out their business and trying to learn how to navigate getting clients and finding locations however I say taking it slow allows you to notice the little things about Boston and it’s catching those little things that make you a good photographer.
