Meet Edward Lenzi of Lenzi Construction and Remodeling in Hudson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Lenzi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our company was started in 1999 with the old fashioned ideal of putting the customer first. We believe in simple principles such as “it’s your home and you have to live in it” so we want to make sure we leave you with a remodel or new project that you will enjoy for as long as you live in your home. After almost 20 years later we still pride ourselves with this principle and it has set us aside as a company. Many companies fall prey to revenue driven methods. We feel when our customers are happy then we excel as a company.

Over the years we have grown 20% per year since 2009 and we employ only the best carpenters and subcontractors. We are only as good as the experienced talent we hire. Growing a company is not all about advertising. Employing the best talent, most professional and respectful people grows a company exponentially.

We use only the best products on the market. A construction company’s nightmare is callbacks for repairs. Not only is this costly for the company but it can be an inconvenience for the customer. We are very innovative and constantly keep up with the newest technology and the best products with the best warranties and durability on the market. Our company has less than a 1% callback for repairs because we do not sacrifice quality.

Today our company has a positive presence all over the internet including Angie’s List, Houzz.com, Google, Yelp and many other social forums. We are proud of our accomplishments and thank our customers for all their help in reviewing us that has helped in our success.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a company there are always obstacles and challenges. Ours have been mostly driven by the economic ups and downs. Because of our company principles our growth has been mostly consistent. 2008 was our only down year due to the obvious major recession. From 1999 through 2007 we grew as most companies did through the economic boom. When the fourth quarter of 2007 and into 2008 recession hit our nation and our industry took a large hit. We decided that we would not be a statistic early on and we needed to figure out a way to keep our company on top and remain committed to our employees and customers. So we made cutbacks before it was too late but most importantly we kept our principles on quality, communication and commitment to our customers. The recession removed a lot of bad contractors and the good ones remained strong and successful and we worked hard and are very proud to be one of them.

Currently our largest Obstacle is finding experienced carpenters as well as laborers. We have a major deficiency in skilled labor throughout our industry. There are more individuals retiring from the trades than individuals entering the trades. This shortage of construction workers is driving up labor prices as we attempt to attract better qualified, experienced and hardworking employees. This is by far the largest hurdle our industry has dealt with and will continue to get worse until we can encourage our youth generation to enter a trade for their career.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lenzi Construction & Remodeling – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We started out in 1999 as a small company and have grown steadily. Although we are a full construction and remodeling company we have become known for our extraordinary custom decks. We are one of few companies who specialize in steel frame decks. Steel is perfectly straight and more environmentally friendly than pressure treated wood with less scrap. We can span longer distances and it’s lighter so there is less stress on your home. This sets us apart from the average deck builder. We only use the best products and the highest skilled carpenters in the field. Simply, we will not sacrifice our quality for anyone or for any reason. We have spent almost 20 years to build a reputation that sets us apart from our competition and our online presence and reviews don’t lie. With the internet today it can make you extremely successful or it can put you out of business.

We are also famous for our underdeck ceiling systems that allow you to add more outdoor living space under your deck. We currently have several options that create a beautiful waterproof ceiling system. We also have several options to screen in under your deck also. For your outdoor living needs we have all the options.

We are also known for our quality kitchen remodels. Most companies will take several months to remodel a complete kitchen. At Lenzi Construction & Remodeling we have always concentrated on quality and being productive with the customers’ home and lifestyle in mind. Our average kitchen remodel from demo to finish takes 3-4 weeks. One reason is because we have great subcontractors that work around our schedule because we pay them immediately and not 30-90 days like the industry norm. Although any kitchen remodel can be an inconvenience, we do our best to streamline and keep as much working for the customer.

Many of our other specialties include Windows, siding, roofs, basement remodels and more.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
At Lenzi Construction & Remodeling, we are consistently making changes that set us apart. We constantly research new products and better ways to accomplish our projects. Materials are a large part of our changes but we also look for better ways to serve our customers from communicating to customer service. We listen to feedback from our customers and make changes accordingly. We want our customers to feel comfortable with us in and around there homes. Trust is hard to come by but we believe we have earned that trust and continue to strive for new methods as the expectations of our customers change.
